Make the grouping audible
A 7/8 or another asymmetric cycle can be felt through grouped accents, while a slower song may place the voice above a drone or free phrase. Keep the percussion clear enough to reveal the pattern. A gaida, kaval, gadulka, or vocal ensemble can lead different settings.
Let the voices carry grain
Bulgarian choral traditions may use close cluster-like intervals and powerful unison or layered lines. A village dance, harvest song, wedding, or lament will ask for a different tempo and register. Give the language and regional story the same attention as the unusual rhythm.
