Artists do their best work when they have the freedom to follow their creative process wherever it leads, with the tools, time, collaborators and space to make an idea truly their own. The most interesting results often come when the process is allowed to stay open, evolve, and take unexpected turns.
To celebrate the release of v6, Emmy Award-winning director and choreographer Nina McNeely worked with dancer Braylon Browner and singer-songwriter/producer Banoffee across two shoots, each built around a distinct creative process. Both artists created an original song with v6 as the foundation, with Braylon building outward from movement and Banoffee from genre-mixing and audio experimentation. Rather than asking the artists to create in a prescribed format, the goal was to support the way they work and see what emerges when they’re given room to expand. The result was two very different worlds, each pushing the artist’s practice into new territory.
Braylon Browner: Turning movement into music
For Braylon, his process begins with movement. As a dancer and choreographer, he’s used to responding to music. With v6, he was able to reverse the process and shape the music around what his body was already expressing.
In rehearsal, choreography and sound developed side by side, each influencing the other. That process eventually expanded into the full visual world of the film, with Nina translating the energy of the movement into the set, performance and camera language.
Banoffee: Pushing sound somewhere new
Musician and producer Banoffee approached the project from a completely different place. Her work has always been rooted in experimentation: blending genres, textures and influences until something unexpected takes shape. With v6 as part of the process, she had another way to test and reshape her wildest ideas while keeping her own taste and instincts at the center.
Working with Nina, that experimentation extended beyond the track and into the visual world. Shot at Toronto’s Hearn Generating Station, the music video leans into the same industrial, metallic energy that runs through the music with raw surfaces, scale and industrial grit all becoming part of the atmosphere. Nina translated those qualities to create a world that felt like an extension of the track.
Built for however you create
There’s no single way into a creative process, and v6 is built to meet artists wherever theirs begins. Whether the starting point is movement, sound, texture, instinct, or something harder to define, the goal is to give artists the freedom to follow their ideas on their own terms and the support to push them somewhere genuinely new, no matter the medium.
