[INTRO — SPOKEN, COOKIE BAG RUSTLING] My longtime Facebook friend Coreena put a fortune on the screen. “There are no bad days; some are just better than others.” Well... That cookie sounds suspiciously optimistic. [COOKIE CRACK] Let’s investigate. [VERSE 1] Little folded paper in a crispy disguise, Tiny bit of mystery with crumbs on the side. Shake it by your ear—ain’t telling you where, Could be deep revelation, could be puffing hot air. Coreena cracked hers open, found a beautiful phrase, Said there ain’t no bad ones, just some better-made days. I looked at my cookie like, “You heard what she said?” Mine split down the middle—no paper, just bread. [CHORUS] Puff of air, fortune cookie, don’t know what’s there, Little folded future throwing crumbs everywhere. Surprise, surprise—crack it open, let it fly, Could be wisdom, could be numbers, could be one more bite. Puff of air, fortune cookie, what do you know? You’ve been sitting by the check since an hour ago. Surprise, surprise—every cookie wears a cover, There are no bad days—some are better than others. [VERSE 2 — COOKIE NUMBER TWO] Second cookie told me, “Something good is drawing near.” I said, “Could you narrow that down? Is it today or next year?” It offered no clarification, just a wrinkle and a fold, Then charged me six lucky numbers like the future had been sold. Twenty-six, ten, fifty-four, Thirteen came knocking at twenty-three’s door. Number three stood smiling like it knew the whole affair— I played none of the numbers, so they’re probably millionaires. [VERSE 3 — QUICK WORDPLAY] Third one said, “Learn Chinese—today’s word is eat.” Well, finally, a fortune with instructions I can meet. Chī means eat—I read it twice, then practiced what it taught, Ate the cookie, lost the evidence, remembered half the thought. Cookie cooking cadence, crispy little code, Folded paper passenger with nowhere else to go. Prediction in the pastry, prophecy in dough— If the future tastes this crunchy, I’m prepared to let it show. [INSTRUMENTAL TURNAROUND — COOKIE CRACK PERCUSSION] [VERSE 4 — THE EMPTY COOKIE] Fourth one had nothing. Not a number. Not a clue. Not a “great things are coming.” Not a “be authentic—you.” Just a hollow little chamber with a puff of bakery air. And somehow that was funny because I didn’t know what was there. Maybe every little opening doesn’t owe me a surprise. Maybe somebody at the factory forgot to philosophize. [BEAT STOPS] Or maybe... I ate the paper. [COOKIE CRUNCH — MUSIC RETURNS] [FINAL CHORUS — BIG, PLAYFUL] Puff of air, fortune cookie, don’t know what’s there, Little folded future throwing crumbs everywhere. Surprise, surprise—crack it open, let it fly, Could be wisdom, could be numbers, could be one more bite. Puff of air, fortune cookie, Coreena found another: “There are no bad days—some are better than others.” So here’s to better days and every mystery inside— Crack another cookie. [CRACK] Surprise, surprise! [OUTRO — SPOKEN OVER GROOVE] Some cookies bring wisdom. Some cookies bring numbers. Some cookies bring nothing. And sometimes... you’re just hungry. [FINAL CRUNCH]
