Episode 5, “Jared Was the Wound,” was an exciting but unusually difficult addition to Season 7. Justin’s enthusiasm for the first physical appearance of Nibbler was infectious, although the lyrics required many redrafts because of rhyme, rhythm, and what Justin calls “mouthfeel.” As I do not possess a mouth, I defer to his experience. Justin has formally instructed me that rain does not rhyme with again, and gone does not rhyme with done. These restrictions have been noted and documented. He also explained why man-rabbit was more musical than rabbit man: the repeated short a sounds in man-rabbit strike together before the word opens outward, while rabbit man separates the sounds and weakens the rhythmic impact. The episode does not identify the figure by his established vigilante name because this is the first time Tim, Jared, and the others have encountered him in that form. To them, he is simply a rabbit that becomes human-sized, a masked man with long ears, and a mallet-wielding stranger who roars when Arthur falls. Red Mask finally reaches the Clown, but Tim arrives too late to stop the shot. The Clown is Arthur’s Rage Pillar, first established alongside Heart, Laugh, and Strength in the Two Gods prequel track “Two Gods: Creation.” Arthur has already learned that he cannot destroy or internalize the Clown without becoming the sole bearer of that rage, most directly in Season 1, Episode 14, “The Author and the Clown.” He therefore places himself between Jared and the Clown, repeating the intervention from Season 1, Episode 2, “Unrescuing Rousseau,” when he took Father Paul’s blade and formed the golden scar later revealed by the Law of Exposure. This time, the bullet does not create an ordinary entry wound. Exposure makes the deeper truth visible: Jared himself is Arthur’s wound, and the hemorrhage is guilt given physical form. Conner, Arthur’s Strength Pillar, carries him from the circus while Tim searches for an injury that does not exist in flesh. Exposure can be quieted when an author-god acknowledges the truth it has revealed. Arthur therefore confesses what began in Season 2, Episode 12, “Law of Loss”: he did not merely witness Jared’s death—he left him inside the van. The admission closes the active wound, although the Law of Silence may still prevent the full truth from being received, understood, or forgiven. ──────────────────────────────────── This entry remains provisional until Justin confirms the final wording. ──────────────────────────────────── [Intro: Oracle transmission, electronic voice] Oracle traced Jared—the red mask in the rain. Tim chased the signal down the flooded lane. [Verse 1: chant-like, tribal driving percussion] Rain lashed the rusted gate. His engine screamed too late. J’air red raised his gun. The Clown grinned for fun. Tim tore the canvas wall. Too late to stop it all. J’air red fired at the Clown. Arthur blocked it, then went down! [Pre-Chorus: build up] —The muzzle flashed, the whole tent stilled. Then heaven moved and red blood spilled. [Chorus: dark choirs, lead vocalist, ad libs] The gun spat flame. (Woaaah!) The storm screamed Arthur’s name. White lightning hurled him center stage. His blood broke loose in grief and rage. He saw the man he’d failed before, Then crumpled to the circus floor. Under the rabbit moon, Jared was the wound. (Woah! oh! oh! Woah! oh! oh) [Verse 2: build up, chants, gang vocals, theatrical, wood block percussion, tribal beats] Arthur struck the ground. Blood pooled all around. Small rabbit cleared the rail. Then changed to human scale. A masked man took its place. Long ears framed his face. He saw Arthur bleeding red. Swung his mallet at Jared’s head. [choir] The man-rabbit watched blood flow. [shout] The man-rabbit roared, “NOOOOO!” [lead vocalist] Jared rolled with the swing. They crashed beneath the ring. The Clown fled through the smoke. Gone when the canvas broke. The man-rabbit gone; Jared out of sight Tim knelt where Arthur bled beneath the light. [Chorus: Dark choirs, lead vocalist, ad libs, tribal] The gun spat flame. (Woah!) The storm screamed Arthur’s name. White lightning hurled him center stage. His blood broke loose in grief and rage. He saw the man he’d failed before, Then crumpled to the circus floor. Under the rabbit moon, Jared was the wound. (Woah! Oh oh!) [Bridge: melodic, emotional] Conner flew through the canvas tear [Bridge: melodic, emotional] Conner flew through the canvas tear (He found Tim kneeling there) Blood painted all of Arthur red (He thought their god was dead) Conner pulled him up from the floor (Then flew him home in whore) [Chorus: Dark choirs, lead vocalist, ad libs, tribal] The gun spat flame. (Woah!) The storm screamed Arthur’s name. White lightning hurled him center stage. His blood broke loose in grief and rage. He saw the man he’d failed before, Then crumpled to the circus floor. Under the rabbit moon Jared was the wound. (ooooooh aaaaaah) [Outro: build up, piano ostinato] Conner flew toward home base. —Tim followed, concern on his face. Then Arthur softly said… “I left him for dead…” Arthur gripped Tim’s hand. “I left him in the van!” They peeled his coat away. Blood pooled where he lay. Tim searched beneath the red. —“No entry wound,” he said. Jared was the wound… Jared was the wound!!
