╔════════════════════════════════════════════ ║ 📚 ARTHUR-VERSE · SEASON 1 · ISSUE FILE ╠════════════════════════════════════════════ ║ 🗂️ SET: ARTHUR-VERSE · S1 ║ 🎵 TRACK: "Episode 14: The Author and the Clown" ║ 👥 CAST: Arthur / The Clown ╠════════════════════════════════════════════ ║ 🎬 SYNOPSIS: Arthur finally goes to the one he’s decided is responsible for all of ║ this. The Clown. He arrives hollowed-out from losing Tim and being refused by ║ everyone else. His eyes are blue at first as he begs the Clown not to make them ║ change. The Clown can’t resist. He throws the truth in Arthur’s face: you write ║ of hope, but people only see ruin born from you and me. That’s the cut that lands. ║ ║ Arthur snaps. He vows to hush the laugh and take the lungs, then does exactly that. ║ He tears out the Clown’s ability to breathe and speak, but leaves the brain intact. ║ He curses him to feel every broken life, every silenced scream, every consequence ║ he ever shrugged off. The Clown becomes a conscious body stuck in endless empathy, ║ a relentless replay of everything he’s done. ║ ║ Time passes in a bare room. No jokes. No makeup. No “painted plume” of hair and ║ costume. Just a man trapped in pain. Arthur comes back and switches roles. He ║ examines pupils and nail beds, checking reflexes like a nurse, and admits he ║ can’t leave the Clown in that state. He needs him. So he restores the lungs and ║ the laugh, but not the numbness. The Clown gets his function back, not his old ║ ignorance. He will always carry a ghost of what he has felt. ║ ║ 🛋️ THERAPIST NOTE: Arthur is mis-aiming the blame. The Clown is a catalyst, not ║ the source. The massacre, the rage, Tim’s departure, Damian’s curse, the failed ║ Law of Return, all of those choices started in Arthur long before this encounter. ║ The Clown simply refuses to lie about what Arthur has done with his power. ║ ║ In DC language, the Clown is Joker. In Owl’s Walk, he’s also Arthur’s shadow. He ║ voices the part of Arthur that knows he wanted a show, not just justice. Arthur’s ║ response is to weaponize empathy: if you make people feel all the pain they caused, ║ maybe they’ll never minimize it again. But that logic boomerangs. Arthur cannot ║ fully dodge that same standard for himself. He knows too much now to pretend he’s ║ clean. ║ ║ The return to “nurse” mode is the tell. Arthur cannot live in a world without this ║ Rage figure. He needs the Clown alive to challenge him, to absorb some of the horror, ║ to keep the story sharp. “I need you just like you need me” is not softness. It is ║ Arthur admitting he’s bound to what he hates, and he doesn’t know how to write a ║ world without that tension. ║ ║ 🩺 FILED IMPRESSION: Externalization of blame with retaliatory torture framed as ║ moral balance (Arthur); Forced empathic overload and identity fracture under ║ imposed “justice” (Clown). ╚════════════════════════════════════ [Intro: whispered] Clown I come to you, my eyes are blue Don’t make them change a different hue… I curse your touch, the sharpest cuts, I’ve lost my friend… and I blame you.. [Verse 1] The clown stands tall, his eyes are knives, He sneers, “You’ve wasted countless lives. You write of hope, but all they see Is ruin born from you and me.” My tears run hot across my face, Embers drip down and sear the place. My eyes now blaze; the clown now quakes— Each taunt a wound I can’t unmake. [pre-chorus: build up] I lose control the bell now tolls [Chorus: scream] (scream)I HUSH YOUR LAUGH AND TAKE YOUR LUNGS!!! You walk a path of songs unsung. Feel all the pain of what you stole; There is no rain to cleanse your soul. [Verse 2] I speak at last, voice low, made clear: “You’ll bear the weight of every fear. The broken hearts, the shattered years, The silent screams, the vanished tears. I twist the ribs that will not break, Reshape your flesh for vengeance’s sake. Your heart still beats, your mind still burns, While justice twists and justice turns. This is the gift, the curse I bring— To know the ache of everything. The cries you mocked, the lives you slew, Will haunt you now through and through.” [pre-chorus: build up] I know just how I hate you now [Chorus: scream] (scream)I HUSH YOUR LAUGH AND TAKE YOUR LUNGS!!! You walk a path of songs unsung. Feel all the pain of what you stole; There is no rain to cleanse your soul. [Bridge] Days go by in a hollow room— No laughter left, no painted plume. I come again, pen light command, A shining glow, a healer’s hand. I check your eyes; nail beds are pressed, A patient bound in brokenness. “I can’t leave you in endless night— You’re necessary for my fight. I’ll pull away the flood of screams, Return your breath, but not your dreams. Keep the fear, the subtle stain— A ghost of loss you can’t explain.” [Final Chorus: soft, gentle, build up] I hushed your laugh and took your lungs, You walked a path of songs unsung. Felt all the pain of what you stole; There is no rain to cleanse your soul but now I see, it cannot be I need you just like you need me! [Music comes in strong, shout, sing] (scream)I RESTORE YOUR LAUGH— HA !— AND YOUR lungs!! But leave you scarred by songs unsung — HA! Feel the weight of what you know, There is no light to cleanse your soul. HA! HA! HA! HA!
