Another Lap Around the Sun
[Spoken Intro] Yo Shaun... Birthdays ain't really my thing, mate... But seeing as you've made another lap around the sun, I figured I'd say a few words... [Verse] Well now some years ago in '82, You graced this earth for Mum and Dad, And I'm just guessin', lookin' back, You turned out quite a lad. Maybe a little shy kid at first, That cheeky smile lit up your Mumma's eyes, And I'm thinkin' your disciplinin' Brought a few deep sighs from your Pappa's side. Now I don't know all your story, Or every road you've travelled through, But I'd wager life's thrown a few hard punches, And you've thrown a couple back too. You've got enough tattoos to tell some tales, And probably a few you don't repeat, But beneath the ink and the rough old edges Beats a heart that's kind and sweet. Any man who loves his dogs, And stops to care for creatures small, Can't be all tough talk and stubborn pride— There's something good beneath it all. I hear your Grandma and Granddad Still walk beside you every day, Through well-worn Bibles and precious memories That time can't take away. And somewhere across the miles and distance, A friendship grew for all to see, You've stood beside my girl through stormy weather, Offering kindness patiently. Now birthdays aren't a thing I celebrate, But I'll make an exception today, To wish you health, a laugh or two, And good fortune coming your way. You've been a friend to my girl from afar, When she needed one, that's plain to see, So may this next year bring you both Exactly what it's meant to be.
