[Verse 1] In a green meadow, under starry skies, A sheep lies awake, with weary eyes. She tries to rest, but can't unwind, Her mind is racing, her thoughts entwined. She thinks of all the things she's done, The grass she's eaten, the sun she's won. But as the night wears on, she feels alone, A sheep that can't sleep, with a heart so lonley and done [Verse 2] Her flock is sleeping, all snug and tight, But she lies awake, without a light. She tries to count the stars up high, But her mind keeps wandering, she can't deny. The sound of crickets, the wind in the trees, Keep her awake, with a restless breeze. She gets up and walks, through the silent night, A lonely sheep, without a guiding light. [Verse 3] So she began to count, the sheep that lay around, Their gentle breathing, a soothing sound. [Chorus] One sheep, two sheep, three sheep, four, She counted on, as she walked some more. Five sheep, six sheep, seven sheep, eight, Her eyelids grew heavy, her pace slowed to a wait. Nine sheep, ten sheep, eleven sheep, twelve, She felt her worries, start to dissolve and delve. [Chorus] Thirteen sheep, fourteen sheep, fifteen sheep, sixteen, Her mind grew quiet, her heart began to glean. Seventeen sheep, eighteen sheep, nineteen sheep, twenty, She felt herself, getting sleepy, quite plenty. As she counted on, the sheep all around, She finally felt, her eyes growing down. [Outro] And with a sigh, she lay down to rest, The counting of sheep, had finally done its best. Her eyes grew heavy, her breathing slow, The sheep was asleep, with a heart that glowed. The counting of sheep, had worked its charm, And the sheep that couldn't sleep, was finally in a peaceful form because she now knows that she is not alone.
