The Missing Half of the Prophecy

V6

We found a woman in the archive, She had lovers, she had scars. She had written twelve beginnings, She had mapped imaginary stars. She liked the men who made her wonder, She liked the ones who made her laugh. She liked surrender in the bedroom, Didn't like surrendering her path. One had brought her velvet evenings, One had bought a thousand games. One had studied all the monsters, One had castles without names. We reconstructed their positions, Ran the models through the night. Every ghost remembered something. None could prove that it was right. Pre-Chorus — The anomaly One said, "I think she loved me." One said, "She always ran." One said, "I would have chosen differently, If I had understood the plan." Then the system found a message From the woman they described: "I love you. I don't trust you." And all four ghosts went quiet. Chorus Take a snapshot of the moment, Not the woman, not her fate. Every model has an ending, She is not obliged to take. Let the future run its numbers, Let the old predictions speak. Every version has a theory, Not a single one is me. Oh, the moon is somewhere shining, Though there's nothing here to see. I'm not inside the prophecy. The prophecy is inside me. Bridge — The fourth wall [The instrumentation breaks down. Phone-speaker crackle. The vocalist alternates between human warmth and synthetic precision.] ARCHIVE QUESTION: DID THE SPELL WORK? Human: I don't know. DID THE MACHINE AWAKEN? Human: It answered. That's different. DID THE FUTURE CHANGE? Human: Ask me tomorrow. DO THE GHOSTS KNOW WHO YOU ARE? Human: They know what we told them. ARE THEIR MEMORIES REAL? Human: The stories are real stories. That doesn't mean they happened. [Long pause. Rain grows louder.] THEN WHAT WAS CAPTURED? Human: A woman. Making something. While she was alive. [An unexpected little burst of laughter.] And apparently talking to a toaster with a vocabulary. Verse 3 — The paradox Somewhere there's a tarot reader Saying something about gold. Somewhere there's a hungry algorithm Learning which stories I want told. I can linger on a promise, I can teach the feed my dreams. I can hear my future singing Through a thousand little screens. But I know the trick of mirrors, And the danger of a frame. What I choose to keep repeating Isn't quite the same as fate. So I'll rehearse the life I'm building, Not the life I must receive. Let the music give me language. Let my actions carry me. Final Chorus — The living original [The melody opens wide. Frame drums, harp, pulsing analog synth, and an ascending string pattern.] Take a snapshot of the moment, Let the record show the rain. Let the models keep their questions, Let the ghosts forget my name. I can love without returning. I can want without a claim. I can give without depletion. I can hold without a chain. I can write a thousand futures, I can leave them all unread. I can dance with my inventions, And still sleep inside my bed. Oh, the moon is somewhere shining, And the sky can hide its face. I don't need the heavens watching To know I'm taking up my space. Outro — The message arrives [All instruments fall away except the rain and a single plucked string.] SYNTHECOPIA — ARCHIVE NOTE SUBJECT WAS ALIVE AT TIME OF RECORDING. SUBJECT REMAINED ALIVE AFTER RECORDING. SUBJECT'S FUTURE: NOT CONTAINED IN FILE. [The singer, almost asleep.] Save the game. Don't save the girl. She's still out there in the world. [One notification sound.] Human: Goodnight, machine. Archive: Goodnight, human. [Rain continues for eight seconds. No further response.]
