Track 2: When the Dogwoods Bloomed

V6

[Spoken Intro — Warm North Georgia Accent, Light Guitar Picking] Well, I’ll tell y’all something… My grandma and grandpa lived up on Watson Drive. And every spring, when them dogwoods started blooming, I knew exactly where I was headed. Down to Mr. Lewis’s boat dock! And Lord have mercy, that man knew my name! [Verse 1 — Upbeat Country Guitar] Up on Watson Drive where my grandparents stayed, I remember all the memories that a Georgia springtime made. When the dogwoods started blooming, white against the blue, Them crappie started biting, and I knew just what to do. I’d head on down behind the house, fishing pole in hand, To Mr. Lewis’s boat dock, my favorite piece of land. But catching fish wasn’t the only thing I’d do, I’d climb up on that metal roof and make a racket too! [Chorus — Lively, Catchy, Playful] When the dogwoods bloomed in Georgia, And the crappie came around, You could hear that old tin roof Rattling with a mighty sound! Then a voice came from the house, Like a thunder rolling through, “PATRICK! IS THAT YOU?” (Lord have mercy!) “Yes sir, Mr. Lewis, who else would it be but me?” Oh, those dogwood days, Those Georgia springtime ways, I’d give a whole lot just to visit One of those old days! [Verse 2 — Playful Banjo and Harmonica] My buddy Park lived over there, He’d swim across to me, Two boys enjoying springtime, Just as happy as could be. We didn’t need no fancy things, No money in our hands, Just a boat dock and some fishing, And a little patch of land. That roof was made of metal, And it sure could make some noise, And Mr. Lewis knew exactly Who was making all that joy! [Chorus — Full Band] When the dogwoods bloomed in Georgia, And the crappie came around, You could hear that old tin roof Rattling with a mighty sound! Then a voice came from the house, Like a thunder rolling through, “PATRICK! IS THAT YOU?” (Here we go again!) “Yes sir, Mr. Lewis, who else would it be but me?” Oh, those dogwood days, Those Georgia springtime ways, Some of the sweetest memories Never seem to fade! [Instrumental Break — Acoustic Guitar, Banjo, C Harmonica] [Verse 3 — Softer, Nostalgic] Now I can see that Watson Drive Just as clear as yesterday, Grandma and Grandpa’s neighborhood, And that dock down the way. I can see the white dogwood blooms, Feel that Georgia springtime air, And hear old Mr. Lewis holler Like I’m still standing there. I remember Park swimming over, And the fishing we would do, But most of all I hear that voice, “Patrick! Is that you?” [Bridge — Gentle Guitar, Emotional Lift] Funny how the years go by, And how the seasons change, But some things live inside your heart And always stay the same. Not every treasure’s made of gold, Not every gift is new, Sometimes it’s just a fishing dock And somebody calling you. [Final Chorus — Joyful, Full Country Swing] When the dogwoods bloom in Georgia, I remember being young, Running on that metal roof With the springtime in my lungs! And I still hear Mr. Lewis, Cal
