[INTRO — SHORT WOOD-TAP PICKUP] [Acoustic guitar and warm bass enter] [Singing within four bars] [VERSE 1] Mickey heard a crunching on the other side of dawn. Oliver said, “That fence was solid— now a piece is gone.” A termite with a backpack turned around and flashed a grin: “There’s a whole world past this timber. Come on through and have a spin.” They peeked into the sunlight, saw a blue slide shining bright, swings beneath the branches, little flowers catching light. Mickey looked at Oliver. Oliver looked back. “Well, we came to find a neighbor— found a playground out back.” [CHORUS] Bugs help bugs, make a little room. Some come rolling, some come scooting through. Some need a friendly push, some steer their own way. Everybody’s got a place in this backyard kind of day. Bugs help bugs, that’s how friendship grows. A little hole can open up more world than you suppose. [VERSE 2] A beetle in a wheelchair said, “I’m heading for that swing. Would you help me past this tree root?” “Sure,” said his friend in green. Another bug came cruising with a motor and a seat: “Follow me around the flowers— there’s a smoother way to meet.” Mickey took the blue slide, Oliver came too. Water splashed like diamonds and their laughter tumbled through. The termite shook his sawdust off and joined them in the sun. Nobody kept a tally of the way you reached the fun. [CHORUS] Bugs help bugs, make a little room. Some come rolling, some come scooting through. Some need a friendly push, some steer their own way. Everybody’s got a place in this backyard kind of day. Bugs help bugs, that’s how friendship grows. A little hole can open up more world than you suppose. [PROTECTED EIGHT-BAR INSTRUMENTAL TURNAROUND] [No vocals] [Warm organ answers playful electric guitar] [Keep the bass rolling gently] [VERSE 3] Round went the merry-go-round, up went a happy cheer. “Give us one more easy turn— we like the view from here.” The swings were keeping rhythm, the leaves were keeping time. Even that old wooden fence had a little light inside. Then they gathered by the doorway with the afternoon aglow. Mickey said, “We ought to visit.” Oliver said, “I know.” The termite tipped his little hat: “The opening’s here to stay.” And everybody made some room for a friend along the way. [BRIDGE — SPACIOUS, WARM] You can ask before you lend a hand. You can listen when they say. Sometimes help is just a little space to do it their own way. There’s a hundred ways to travel, there’s a thousand things to see. Save a place beside you— that’s enough for you and me. [EIGHT-BAR GUITAR BREAK] [Expressive, cheerful electric guitar] [Live drums and rounded bass hold the pocket] [No vocals] [FINAL CHORUS — WARM HARMONIES] Bugs help bugs, make a little room. Some come rolling, some come scooting through. Some need a friendly push, some steer their own way. Everybody’s got a place in this backyard kind of day. Bugs help bugs, that’s how friendship grows. A little hole can open up more world than you suppose. [OUTRO — GENTLY SUNG] Mickey waved to Oliver. The termite tipped his hat. “Same time tomorrow?” “You can count on that.” Bugs help bugs. Make a little room. There’s a place beside us, and we saved that place for you. [SHORT GUITAR RESOLUTION] [Clean final chord, natural decay]
