Episode 9: Don’t Mistake A Rescue With A Collar
╔════════════════════════════════════════════ ║ 📚 ARTHUR-VERSE · SEASON 1 · ISSUE FILE ╠════════════════════════════════════════════ ║ 🗂️ SET: ARTHUR-VERSE · S1 ║ 🎵 TRACK: Episode 9: Don’t Mistake Rescue With A Collar ║ 👥 CAST: Arthur / Selina Kyle (Catwoman) / Alley thugs ╠════════════════════════════════════════════ ║ 🎬 SYNOPSIS: This picks up right after "Episode 8: This Rage Is Mine." Arthur is ║ crumpled in an alley, bruised, bleeding, sobbing. Tim is gone. The rage is back ║ where it “belongs,” but Arthur feels hollowed out by the fight. Depowered. Scared. ║ That’s why the thugs move in. They see a man who won’t even lift his head. ║ ║ Selina Kyle interrupts what she thinks is a normal mugging. She drops the goons ║ fast and clean and is already turning to leave, because that’s how she survives. ║ She doesn’t come to adopt strays. She comes to stop the immediate mess and keep ║ moving. ║ ║ Arthur speaks up, not to impress her, not to manipulate her. He’s too wrecked for ║ that. He says the truth because it’s all he can reach for. “I’m Arthur… The Author.” ║ Selina clocks it instantly. “Author of what?” Arthur answers, flat and factual, ║ “All things right here. All that you see I own.” ║ ║ And Selina draws the line that matters. Rescue does not equal caretaking. Just ║ because she stepped in does not mean she’s taking him home, feeding him, fixing him, ║ or letting him cling to her like a lifeline. She refuses the role completely. She ║ will not be his caregiver. “Don’t mistake rescue with a collar,” is the boundary. ║ ║ 🛋️ THERAPIST NOTE: Arthur is in a post-rupture collapse. The fight with Tim didn’t ║ just injure him, it stripped him down. When Selina arrives, Arthur reaches for the ║ closest thing to stability he has left. A person. A witness. A caretaker. His “Author” ║ claim isn’t dominance here. It’s naked honesty, said with no extra processing behind ║ it. He cannot lie right now. He can barely cope. ║ ║ Selina’s refusal lands like medicine that burns. She doesn’t punish him for being ║ hurt. She just refuses to become responsible for it. She stops the violence, then ║ protects her agency the same way she protects her body. She teaches Arthur the lesson ║ he hates most in this season. Someone can help you and still leave. ║ It sums up the entire conflict between Arthur (who wants a collar/connection) and the world (which refuses to take him in).” ║ ║ 🩺 FILED IMPRESSION: Post-rupture collapse with attachment reaching under threat ║ (Arthur); Boundary-setting with refusal of caretaking role and preservation of ║ self-sovereignty (Selina). ╚════════════════════════════════════ [intro: build up] Arthur lay beaten, bruised, bleeding…and now no one was reading… The alley throat refused his shaking voice, He sobbed while Tim’s departure fucked his choice. His power seeped, a godhead sleeped beneath his mortal skin, He only peeped and softly weeped while letting fear walk in. [spoken: male voice, sneering, ridicule] (male vocalist)The little man’s coat ain’t sparkling anymore (shouted)GET HIM!! [verse 1: cabaret, theatrical] I stalk the block, my score tucked neat, Rain soaks my coat, mud claims my feet. “Okay,” I muttered, then lightly shuddered, as steam rose with the heat, my pulse then quivered then slowly shivered across that drowning street. I pad toward pain, breath held ransom, Hello, sad, lonesome, and handsome. [pre-chorus: spoken word] “Lights up, darling… I’m taking the lead.” [Chorus: strong, declarative, short,] (shouted)I don’t take in every stray that’s crying, My heart’s not hospice; I’m done with trying. I keep my claws and my right to leave, I choose myself over what you need. [verse 2: tribal rhythm, fight, build up] In the alley of pain where no one knows my name One clown drew heat; I didn’t blink, My whip cracked loud, rewrote his kink. He swung and MISSED then kicked and PISSED his anger at the FLOOR, I swept his FEET then dropped him NEAT and kept him wanting MORE I turned to leave, done with their schemes— Till two words cracked like breaking dreams. [Pre-chorus: spoken word:: male voice, male performer] (male vocalist)Wait! Selina. [Chorus] (shouted)I don’t take in every stray that’s crying, My heart’s not hospice; I’m done with trying. I keep my claws and my right to leave, I choose myself over what you need. [bridge I] I ask for his name, he claims he writes fate, I doubt every claim., rain stalls as I wait. (spoken male vocalist)I’m Arthur… The Author… [bridge II: build up] Author of WHAT!? I sneer, the storm shifts its tone, he says “all things right here, all that you see I own.” I lock in that still, don’t want to obey, I snap with that thrill, and SHOUT MY OWN WAY!! [Final chorus: strong, declarative, layered harmonies, cabaret, build up] (gently sung)I don’t take in every stray that’s crying, Your grand design? Cute, but I call it lying. I cut your script — my story keeps me free, I choose myself over what you need. (shouted)I don’t take in every stray that’s crying, My heart’s not hospice; I’m done with trying.
