S2 Episode 8: Roaring Rockets (Arthur-verse S2)
╔════════════════════════════════════╗ ║ WELCOME TO THE ARTHUR-VERSE · S2 ║ ╚════════════════════════════════════╝ Arthur is a self-created author and storm god. He believes he created this world. The City of Owl’s Walk (O.W.) — inspired by Gotham City — has become self-aware… and calls herself **Mother**. Arthur becomes trapped inside the **Hall of Memory**: a vast museum lined with interactive paintings, each one representing a defining moment in Owl’s Walk’s history. Each painting is a memory. Each memory can be entered. Each memory carries consequences that defined the city. Throughout this season, Arthur is guided by: • **Smokey Lois** — a sharp-tongued, time-keeping guide acting as Arthur’s tether back from memory. ──────────────────────────────────── **RULES OF THE HALL OF MEMORY** 🚫 Memories of O.W. must not be rewritten 🚫 Changing canon risks erasing the world 🚭 **NO SMOKING** ──────────────────────────────────── 🎪🩸📁 CANON MEMORY · ARCHIVAL RECORD 📁🩸🎪 ──────────────────────────────────── This memory depicts the fall of the Flying Graysons, reimagined in Owl’s Walk as the Roaring Rockets. In Batman canon, their deaths are one of the core wounds that will eventually give rise to the very first Robin, Batman’s sidekick. In the Arthur-verse, names shift—Gotham becomes Owl’s Walk, the Flying Graysons become the Roaring Rockets (not to hide the reference, but to honor the comic book canon while avoiding a one-to-one IP copy.) Arthur knowingly enters this memory and immediately realizes how wrong his star-stitched cosmic coat looks here, so he disguises himself in an O.W. (Owl’s Walk) medic uniform. When he checks the case file Smokey Lois first handed him back in “Ground Rules,” he finds no Roaring Rockets showtimes, just memories he arrogantly assumes he already knows. He decides he doesn’t need any of it, wipes it, then refills the folder with clippings of the city’s masked vigilante and a single question for Tim: “What kind of hero do you want to be?”—a nudge he convinces himself doesn’t really count as changing anything. When the Roaring Rockets fall, Arthur doesn’t try to stop it. Instead, he goes through the motions, performing a slow code—checking for a pulse, performing deliberately ineffective chest compressions—before stopping and calling the deaths himself. He knows what this death will eventually birth: the first Robin. Before he leaves, Arthur cuts away a piece of the frayed trapeze rope as a memento he shouldn’t take but can’t resist. It doesn’t alter canon, but it ties him to it. When the song ends, he counts to four and exits the memory, leaving the tragedy intact… and carrying something he shouldn’t have. ──────────────────────────────────── ⚠️🎭📎 MEMORY PRESERVED · OBJECT REMOVED 📎🎭⚠️ [intro] Arthur stumbles out the Hall to circus grounds of old. Sinuses revolt as the air hits bright and so cold. His star coat screams it’s wrong. He sighs, “it don’t belong.” Stars fold and pin. Owl’s Walk medic skin. He reads ow!!… Medic…. snorts at his own gag…. One last drag; vape twists into a medic bag. [Spoken] I check inside the bag… Smokey Lois left me a file… I check for Roaring Rockets showtimes… but it’s just memories I already know… [verse 1: dynamic performance] I spot Tim by the tents, eyes sharp, so young and frail He’s five; my mouth goes dry, my face goes pale I pull the file out, wipe it clean No times. Just what I’ve seen— inventory of memory in this file, I don’t need. Imagination will be freed I fill this file with one vigilante and write “WHAT KIND OF HERO DO YOU WANT TO BE?” [pre-chorus: calm] I walk up to Tim and ask, “When’s the show?” He shrugs, says, “I don’t know.” I laugh, “That’s just too bad.” I hand him the file— he grips it, smiles— I can tell that he’s glad. [spoken] I gotta go, kid… Don’t want to miss the show… Pay attention. Its important. [chorus 1] Trapeze lights, the crowd stood tall The Roaring Rockets took their fall Don’t look down Don’t look down I am a god, alone, afraid Using a rope someone has frayed It breaks here It breaks here [verse 2: dynamic performance] Front row, sit still Keep my jaw chill Tim comes in, stands beside Mom and Dad close, eyes open wide Warmup acts roll by, and I feel it start The ringman calls the Rockets; my chest comes apart Roaring Rockets climb the rig, then swing through hot fire No net below, I watch the rope and wire Tim sits beside me, breth held tight His folder hugs the night [pre-chorus] The whole tent holds a sick slow breath I lock my bones and wait for death [chorus 2] Trapeze lights, the crowd stood tall The Roaring Rockets took their fall Hold your breath Hold your breath I am a god, alone, afraid Using a rope someone has frayed No net below No net below [bridge: build up] They spin with perfect grace above, the sky’s their place The crowd goes wild; my eyes blink, no fear on my face They hit each catch, then flip And the rope snaps, they slip My stomach drops in rage Of course I’ve red this page [slow code/purposefully ineffective CPR to ensure the deaths] I run and do the motions, slow, inside the scene I stop and say they’re dead; I know what this death means “They’re gone!” I shout Time I get out… But before I leave I pull from my sleeve one small knife to remember their life I cut a piece of frayed rope and pray it might one day give me hope. [Final chorus] Trapeze lights, the crowd stood tall The Roaring Rockets took their fall Don’t look down Don’t look down I am a god, alone, afraid Using a rope someone has frayed They’re gone now They’re gone now [outro] I spare one glance to see Tim once more and then count to four
