[music intro] Walked in the kitchen with a cuppa in me hand, Darn thing’s empty. Don’t understand. Swear I only just made it, Stood right there by the sink, Kettle carryin’ on Like it knew how to think. Sat the cup down Beside the brekky bowl, Called to the old fella, “Want one?” down the hall. “Yeah, go on then.” Back it comes. Thought I might’ve dodged it ... But no such luck, mum. Thinkin’ weren’t switched on That early in the day, Brain still camped in bed Refusin’ to play. Measured out the coffee, Careful ... more or less, Tried lookin’ capable Though I’ll freely confess… Stirred it round slow, Watched the sugar go down, Steam driftin’ up Like I knew what I’d done. Went to grab the handle ... And that’s when it hit. There weren’t no handle. Just smooth white bit. Stood there blinkin’. Had a little stare. Knew somethin’ wasn’t right But couldn’t say where. Two white things on the bench, Both steamin’ away, One was a mug ... One… well… not that way. Took a moment longer Than I’d care to admit, Then it come to me plain ... I’d done a daft bit. Brewed the fresh hot coffee Careful as you please, Straight into the empty bowl With absolute ease. No handle. No excuse. Just me and that Loose ... left-hand screw. Wiped me eyes. Shook me head. Poured it into his mug instead. Carried it out steady, Face set just right, Like nothin’ odd Had happened in sight. Handed it over. Didn’t say a word. Hoped the whole affair Had gone unheard. I always say, “What he don’t know’s fine…” But he’s got that look Every single time. That quiet little squint Like he’s read the page… Reckon he knows When me left - brain’s engaged. Some mornings round here Run smooth as can be. Some mornings… Well ... They’re operated By the wrong side of me. ... Darn left-hand brain ... Darn left-hand brain [Music Outro] ... Darn left-hand brain
