[Verse 1] Sun’s goin' down, you’re out there in the dark Sharpenin' your shovel, lookin' for a mark. You’re measurin' the ground, you’re checkin' every side Buildin' up a trap where a good man oughta hide. [Chorus] But listen close, son, to what the old folks say The hole you’re diggin' is gonna swallow you today. Yeah, you’re diggin’ a pit, thinkin' you’re so sly But that dirt’s gonna hit you right between the eyes. [Verse 2] You rolled a heavy stone just to block my path Now you’re lookin' up, feelin' the mountain's wrath. What you heap on me is comin' back on you That's the Memphis gospel, and it's bitter-sweet and true. [Outro] Watch your shovel Watch your soul Don’t get buried in your own deep hole.
