[Spoken Intro] "LOOK OUT!... QUICK RUN!" Not magpies... Not Plovers... This was Bruce. A tiny rooster... With a very big attitude. He thought he was ten feet tall. --- [Verse 1] Bruce was the prettiest rooster you'd ever hope to see, Shining reds and golden greens as proud as proud could be. He strutted round the paddock like he owned the whole darn place, Chest puffed out with attitude and confidence to waste. Most days he was a gentleman, as good as any chook, But there was one poor little soul he'd always seem to look. Our young girl could be halfway 'cross the paddock, minding her own way, Then Bruce would spot his target... and the chase was on that day. --- [Pre-Chorus] He'd puff... He'd strut... He'd flap those mighty wings, That little feathered firebrand thought he ruled all living things. --- [Chorus] BRUTAL BRUCE! King of the chook-yard crew. Built like a feather duster, Thought he was six-foot-two. BRUTAL BRUCE! Boss of every feather and roost. If Bruce decided you're the target... Mate... there was no truce! --- [Verse 2] From way across the paddock she'd quietly make her way, Praying Bruce was somewhere else and sleeping through the day. But those beady little eyes would lock on from afar, Then off he'd charge like lightning... our tiny feathered star. Those little legs were pumping, every flap a battle cry, He'd leap and dance around her like he owned the earth and sky. She'd scream, "He's got razor teeth!" Through frightened little cries. Well... they weren't really teeth at all... Just one sharp beak in disguise. --- [Chorus] BRUTAL BRUCE! King of the chook-yard crew. Built like a feather duster, Thought he was six-foot-two. BRUTAL BRUCE! Boss of every feather and roost. If Bruce decided you're the target... Mate... there was no truce! --- [Verse 3] A broom became the weapon when he'd launched another raid, Just enough to stop the little feathered renegade. Then Bruce hit the ground so still... not a flap... not a peep... We all looked at one another... "Cry-key... I think he's asleep!" So we picked him up and shook him, trying to wake the brute. "Come on, Bruce! You'll be right! Wake up, you silly chook!" One day I even pumped his chest, thinking I'd gone too far, Trying to put the breath of life back in our little star. --- [Bridge] One eye opened... His head gave a wobble... He shook himself... Fluffed up every feather... Looked around... As if to say... "Righto... where's that little girl?" "I'm on my way!" --- Final Chorus BRUTAL BRUCE! Hardest rooster ever hatched. You could knock him down, But he'd never stay dispatched. BRUTAL BRUCE! Small bloke... massive attitude. Five minutes later back on patrol... Still in a rotten mood. BRUTAL BRUCE! King of the backyard roost. Long live the legend... BRUTAL BRUCE! --- [Spoken Outro] Bruce caused plenty of trouble... But he became a treasured family memory. I've still got some of his tail feathers on display. Good on ya, Bruce... You little legend...
