Track 5 — Busted at Mr. Wiggins' Store
[Spoken Intro — Deep North Georgia Voice, Walking Bass, Snapping Fingers] Well, I’ll tell y’all something! Growing up on Browns Bridge Road, We had a little country store. Mr. Wiggins ran that place. That’s where I caught the school bus. That’s where I got my fishing supplies. And that’s where I got myself in a WHOLE LOTTA TROUBLE! [Laughs] Hit it, boys! [Intro — Explosive 1950s Rockabilly Guitar, Boogie-Woogie Piano] [Verse 1 — Fast, Bouncy Rock and Roll] Down on Browns Bridge Road, back in Gainesville town, Mr. Wiggins had a store where we all hung around. I’d catch that school bus standing out by the door, Never dreamed I’d get myself banned from that store! First came the old bus, rolling down the road, Then that big Blue Bird with a flat-front load. But all I had on my mind was a fishing hole, A bucket full of minnows and a fishing pole! [Pre-Chorus — Stop-Time Guitar] Well, I had me an idea! Thought nobody would see! But Mr. Wiggins caught a little country boy With some minnows that weren’t free! [Chorus — Big 1950s Rock-and-Roll Backbeat] I got BUSTED! At Mr. Wiggins’ store! Couldn’t come around there Like I did before! I got BUSTED! Lord, what a sight! Had a pocketful of trouble And I knew it wasn’t right! No jailhouse bars, No courtroom floor, Just a whole year banned From Mr. Wiggins’ store! [Rockabilly Guitar Riff] What da!? [Verse 2 — Playful, Rhythmic] I wasn’t stealing diamonds, I wasn’t stealing gold, Just wanted me some minnows To catch a crappie, don’t you know! But stealing is stealing, That’s a lesson I learned, And when Mr. Wiggins caught me, Boy, my little face burned! I could go down fishing, I could wander through the trees, But I couldn’t walk inside that store Whenever I would please. [Chorus — Full Band, Handclaps] I got BUSTED! At Mr. Wiggins’ store! Couldn’t come around there Like I did before! I got BUSTED! Lord, what a sight! Had a fishing fever And I knew I wasn’t right! No jailhouse bars, No courtroom floor, Just a whole year banned From Mr. Wiggins’ store! [Instrumental Break — Wild Boogie-Woogie Piano Solo, Twangy Guitar] [Verse 3 — More Reflective, Still Rocking] Now here’s the part I remember, And it stayed with me for years, I felt something deep inside me That was stronger than my fears. I was ashamed of what I’d done, Didn’t like what I’d become, And I couldn’t blame old Mr. Wiggins For the thing that I had done. I think that was the first time Shame came knocking at my door, All because of fishing minnows At that little country store. [Bridge — Half-Time, Warm Guitar and Piano] A whole year seemed forever To a boy who loved to fish. And I’d give those stolen minnows back If I could make one wish. But time kept rolling onward, And one day that ban was through. Mr. Wiggins let me come back in, And I got another chance too. [Band Builds — Snare Roll, Guitar Slide] [Final Chorus — Full Rock-and-Roll Celebration] I got BUSTED! At Mr. Wiggins’ store! But he finally let me back in, And I walked back through that door! I got BUSTED! But I learned a thing or two, About taking what ain’t yours And owning what you do! From that old school bus To that Blue Bird ride, There was a little country boy With a whole lot left to learn inside! [Spoken Outro — Playful Guitar, Walking Bass] You know… I don’t remember how many fish I caught with them minnows. But I sure remember getting caught stealing ’em! [Laughs] And Mr. Wiggins… I appreciate that second chance. Funny how a little country store Can teach you a great big lesson. All right, boys! One more time! [Final Guitar Stab — Boogie-Woogie Piano Run] BUSTED! [Big Rock-and-Roll Ending]
