Sixteen At Cloudland
Intro (Muted rhythm guitar, soft melodic bass, gentle strings, light handclaps) Verse 1 Cloudland Ballroom, Bowen Hills, what an amazing place, that shining wooden dancing floor, my favourite space. Through my eyes at sixteen years, it felt like heaven’s door, the most beautiful place to be, I couldn’t ask for more. Verse 2 My imagination took off fast, my mind began to roam, elegantly dressed women in colours brightly shown. Handsome partners, sharply dressed, gliding side by side, swirling soft and graceful with that old-world pride. Pre-Chorus What an era to be alive, or so my dreaming said ... but then the band struck up a tune and pulled me from my head. Chorus The music started pulling us, the rhythm found our feet, and soon the whole room moved as one, a rolling, happy heat. Then suddenly the lights went low ... a hush, a breath, a spin, and that’s when I first noticed what was hanging up above us then. Verse 3 Those wearing white began to glow, sparkling as they moved, little flashes, sudden bursts, the whole room gently grooved. I’d never seen such magic fall so close, so bright, so true... sixteen years old at Cloudland, I felt like royalty too Bridge I’ve carried that night through all my years, a song that time can’t erase. Outro / Final Chorus Though Cloudland fell in ’82, they never took that place... it still lives on inside of me, that floor, that light, that tune, where sixteen-year-old me still dances beneath the silver moon. Gentle silver moon (repeat between music soft fade on guitar)
