city neon breaks the darkness As the road unfurls tail lights are crimson bleeding traces left by the vehicles ahead oncoming traffic glares with blue white halos leaking fluorescent whisps that reveal dancing notes in the air. the city towers stand still with darkened windows apart from the odd yellow glimmer of an occupants presence. the music of the city [instrumental break] [newsreader reader says in a radio voice] The weather is changing as North easterly winds bring Sahara desert sands into the region. All who suffer with respiratory problems such as asthmatics should stay indoors at this time. Also all other vulnerable people, such as the old, the very young and those with low immune systems. [newsreader ends] male [musical break] the music of the city sings a lament the world is changing, and some things feel irrelevant could it be we have to pay to breathe? the music of the city will whisper with an exasperated yawn As people plod on untill dawn. the music of the city the music of the city serenades me and still we ignore the morning maybe breaking. and life may start again and when the band begins to play you know you are listening to the music of the city.
