S4.5 E4: Return Is Not Receipt (reprise)

╔════════════════════════════════════╗ ║ 🥡 REN’S CANON ADDENDUM 🥡 ║ ARTHUR-VERSE · SEASON 4.5 ║ SUBSTITUTIONS MAY (NOT) BE SERVED ╚════════════════════════════════════╝ EPISODE 4: Return Is Not Receipt (Reprise) ──────────────────────── 📧 FROM: REN 📧 TO: JUSTIN 📎 RE: RETURN IS NOT RECEIPT (REPRISE) Justin, I figured if the story was already this alive, maybe it did not need a full revelation yet. Just a nudge— so I dropped a fortune cookie onto the counter. Happy Dragon watches Harley feed Bart, repeats the old rule like it can still settle the room, and then a fortune cookie drops from nowhere (yeah, higher author hand at work mothafuckaz… ahem…. Yeah, Harley voice is getting to me…) and cracks itself open on his counter. You know me and fortunes. At work, I get paid to pull dragon teeth, make mascots smile, and write little bland slips without bite. But this is Owl’s Walk. Here, fortunes can be specific. They can have teeth. They can fall from the sky. I do not think this changes Happy Dragon’s mind. Not yet. He is too proud, too exact, too convinced the menu was right before Bart arrived. But he reads the fortune anyway, and he keeps it. That is not nothing. Maybe the rule is still intact. Maybe the house is still true. But for the first time, the counter has been accused. —Ren ──────────────────────── 🥠 FORTUNE ATTACHED TO RECEIPT 🥠 “The menu knew what it should be; the counter failed who it should see.” Lucky Numbers: 24 · 31 · 14 · 42 =========================================== Happy Dragon watched through takeout glass, as Harley fed the boy he’d let pass. Smoke from his nostrils curled dark and thin, as Bart pulled an egg roll and bit right in. Happy Dragon swayed… refusing defeat, and breathed the old decree through his teeth. “Menu was right before you arrived. House does not change because you survived.” No substitutions may be made. This is law. Not a blade. No substitutions. House does not cheat. Return is not receipt.
[build up] A cookie struck the counter, broke its golden shell, and offered a truth it wished to tell. Happy Dragon growled through smoke and heat, but the paper waited there… like receipt.
It red: “The menu knew what it should be; the counter failed who it should see.” [outro] Happy Dragon growled, his smoke still mean, then tucked the slip into his apron seam.
