Yo Shaun, yeah, check it... Yo Shaun, I don’t do birthdays, that’s just how I roll, But you made another lap, so I’m checkin’ on your soul, Another year down, yeah you still stand tall, Tattooed skin but a heart that won’t fall. Born back in ’82, came in strong, Didn’t take you long to learn right from wrong, Bit of shy kid energy in the early days, Now you got that “been through life” kinda gaze. I don’t know your full story, don’t need every page, But I see the scars that you earned from the stage, Life threw punches, you threw ‘em back too, Still here standin’, that says a lot about you. You love your dogs, yeah I heard that’s true, That says more ‘bout a man than most people do, Rough edges but you don’t fake kind, That kind of heart’s hard to find. Grandma and Grandpa still part of your frame, Bible in your hands, you carry their name, That’s roots, that’s blood, that’s something real deep, Even when life don’t let you sleep. Now you’ve been there for my girl from a distance away, Held her up when she was losing her way, I see that, Shaun, yeah I clock what you do, Kindness travels even when you ain’t in view. So I’ll say this plain, no big parade, Not big on birthdays, but I made this today, Health, a laugh, maybe peace in your ride, And whatever you want… I hope it lines up right. And if life keeps spinning and the years go fast, Hope the good ones stick and the hard ones pass, And whatever’s meant between you and her too, Finds its way back home to you.
