Cue the Orchestra

V6

[Intro — single upright bass, fingers snapping] “Congratulations. We’d like to commission the project.” “Fantastic.” “Can you put together the production team?” [Pause] “Already have a few people in mind.” [Sharp brass hit] “What’s your first move?” [Percussion enters] “Calling them.” [Verse 1 — playful, syncopated] Got a contract on the table Got a destination on the map Got a town that wants an adventure And a budget to make it happen Got a camera in somebody’s closet Got a genius with a lens Got a woman who can market anything And a phone full of friends But this time there’s a difference From the way I used to play I’m not asking folks for favors I’ve got actual rates to pay [Pre-Chorus — instruments enter one at a time] Call the photographer! “I’ll capture the light!” Call the videographer! “I can make it come alive!” Call the designer! “What’s the visual direction?” Call the marketer! “Who’s our target audience?” [Brief silence] And me? [Beat drops] I make the connections. [Chorus — explosive Latin brass and breakbeats] Cue the orchestra! One, two, three! Everybody brings a little Something different to the dream! Hit the lights! Roll the scene! Watch a dozen little talents Make a thing nobody’s seen! I don’t play every instrument I don’t have to try I can hear the whole arrangement Before the first note flies! Cue the orchestra! Set the stage! Everybody gets their credit Everybody gets their pay! [Verse 2 — rolling percussion, punchy horns] First we walk the little downtown Find the stories in the street There’s a baker making magic There’s a mural down the street There’s a bookstore with a mystery And a trail behind the square There’s a hundred little reasons Why somebody should go there Now the photographer is shooting And the filmmaker’s catching sound While the marketer is figuring How to bring the people ’round I am talking with the owners Asking what they’d love to show And the designer takes our findings Makes a passport people know [Pre-Chorus — playful call-and-response with instruments] Here’s the concept! Here’s the plan! Here’s the budget! Here’s the brand! Who’s responsible? Who decides? What’s the deadline? What’s the price? [Pause] Oh, look at that. Everybody knows their part. [Chorus] Cue the orchestra! [Bridge — bass and congas, conversational delivery] “Could you add another location?” “Absolutely. I’ll price the additional scope.” “What about another filming day?” “I’ll check the crew’s availability.” “Could you stay through the weekend?” “Would you like to extend the commission?” “Yes, we’d love that.” “Wonderful. I’ll send the revision.” [Brief percussion flourish] [Verse 3 — confident, joyful] There’s a moment before opening When the posters all go up And the printer’s making passports And the café fills the cups Got a map full of adventures Got the storefronts dressed in clues Got a little local history In a hundred different hues And someone says, “You made all this!” And I laugh and shake my head “I brought the right folks together. Look what everybody did!” [Final Chorus — full mambo brass, explosive percussion] Cue the orchestra! Let it play! Every specialist is shining In a beautifully different way! Here’s the vision! Here’s the team! Here’s a little town becoming Somebody’s favorite memory! I don’t play every instrument I don’t carry every case I can stand beside the music And enjoy the thing we made! Cue the orchestra! Raise a glass! Everybody’s been compensated And the project’s built to last! [Outro — gradually dropping instruments until only bass remains] “So, what comes next?” “Well, the campaign launches Friday.” “And after that?” “We review the results.” “And then?” [Pause] “I’ve got another destination in mind.” “Already?” [Small laugh] “Wouldn’t you?” [Final brass hit]
