It has a history of about 400 years and is considered one of the three major Bon dances in Japan. It is held for about 30 nights from mid-July to early September, and is characterized by all-night dancing during the Obon period. Anyone is welcome to take part in this lively festival, where locals and tourists dance together as one. 『猫の子』は踊りの夜も半ば更けた頃、歌い手と踊り子のコール＆レスポンスで歌われる無伴奏曲です。 『猫』は養蚕が盛んだった頃、蚕や繭を守るため家庭で飼われていました。 　歌詞は、猫や、それに例えた滑稽味のある歌詞が多く、踊りの猫を思わせる所作があります。 聴いても踊っても楽しい踊りです。 "Neko no Ko（Lil Cats）" is an unaccompanied piece sung in a call-and-response style between the singer and dancers halfway through the night of dancing. "Cats" were kept in homes to protect the silkworms and cocoons during the time when sericulture was popular. The lyrics often feature cats or humorous comparisons to them, and the gestures are reminiscent of dancing cats.
