Shadow’s Shatter Part 7.2

“I was born in that moment too,” the Shadow says, almost softly. “When the first being shattered itself, there was anger and sorrow in the act, alongside love. That original despair, that rejection, that fear—it coalesced into me. I am the Shadow of the Whole, the rejected self, the pain that was never acknowledged.” The Shadow’s eyes flash as it fixes the Wanderer with a piercing stare. “So you see, your quest to heal the wound is not just to comfort a few suffering souls. You aim to rewrite the very origin. To soothe the ire of God, perhaps.” Its tone drips with skepticism and… hurt. The Wanderer’s voice is gentle: “Not rewrite—no. To understand and reconcile. Even the primordial One must have felt lonely… or incomplete. We are all children of that fragmentation. I seek to honor that story but help it move forward, beyond the pain.” “Honor?” the Shadow snarls, and for the first time genuine fury edges its voice. “You dare speak of honor? For eons, I have borne the collective agony of living beings. I have been demonized as Evil, cast away as Other, called the enemy of creation. All because I carry the truth of suffering!” The chamber trembles; cracks in the obsidian floor glow brighter as if stress is placed on reality itself. The Wanderer braces as the Shadow’s anger washes over them like scorching wind. “You think a bit of compassion and understanding can undo all that betrayal? You think you can integrate me like a lost puzzle piece, just slide me into place and voila—wholeness?” The Shadow’s laughter comes again, razor-sharp. “You do not heal a wound this deep with a gentle touch, Weaver. This is a wound that cuts to the bone of existence. It demands surgery—harsh, unforgiving. Are you strong enough to wield the scalpel? Are you ruthless enough to cut where you must?” The Wanderer feels the weight of those words. Their legs tremble slightly, but they plant their feet. “If cruelty were the answer, the wound would have healed ages ago from all the wars and strife,” they reply. “Strength, yes—I will need strength. But not cruelty. Not more hatred or fear. I will use the strength of truth and love. I will be a surgeon if needed, but my scalpel is understanding.” Even as they say this, the Wanderer knows this is the crux: to remain compassionate and understanding even when facing raw rage. The Shadow’s form crackles, and in a blur it lunges forward, coming to stand only a few paces from the Wanderer. It moves so fast it seems to teleport. Now face-to-face, the resemblance between them is even more uncanny. The Shadow’s face could be mistaken for the Wanderer’s twin, except for the eyes and the expression of ancient bitterness. “Understanding?” the Shadow hisses. “Then understand this!”
