[Verse 1] Woke up this mornin’, brayin’ at the break of day, Woke up this mornin’, brayin’ at the break of day. Somebody done stole my last carrot away. [Verse 2] Looked in the barnyard, not a carrot to be found, Looked in the barnyard, not a carrot to be found. My sweet golden treasure, gone without a sound. [Chorus] Oh Lord, they stole my carrot, my pride and joy, Yes they stole my carrot, my pride and joy. Now this poor donkey’s heart is broke, oh boy. [Verse 3] I’ll bray my blues ‘til the morning light, I’ll bray my blues ‘til the morning light. A donkey without carrots just ain’t right. [Outro – slow & soulful] Yeahhh… they stole my last carrot away.
