October Artist Showcase "Which Side of the Door"
[PART I – THE PERSPECTIVE REVERSAL] You stand at the window, watching the busy street. People in costume in the fog. Lanterns, carved faces on the porches. You feel safe because the door is locked. You check the locks. One after another. A reassuring ritual. But safety is an illusion when it's based on a false perception. You've spent all this time focused on keeping the outside out. And you've overlooked the most important question: “Which side of the door were you on when the bolt slid into place?” [PART II – THE PARANOIA CALCULUS] Horror doesn't need monsters. It only needs your own logic when it starts turning against you. Listen closely. That sound in the house isn't an autumn draft. First, the light goes out. No Wi-Fi. No mobile signal. Until your house is nothing but darkness and you suddenly realize how quiet it's become. Your heart races. Panic leaves you unable to act. You hold your breath to hear it better. In the absolute silence of your house, you hear it. Soft ... soft ... soft footsteps behind you. Slow. Close. Too late to turn around. Too late to scream. [PART III – PHYSICAL REALITY] Now comes the bloody part — cold, hard reality. The pain doesn't hit right away. As the blade cuts through your clothes and into your skin, at first all you feel is pressure. Then warmth. Something wet spreading across your stomach. You put your hands over the wound. Warm blood runs between your fingers as you desperately try to stop it. You see your own hands shining red in the pale moonlight. This is the moment when reality catches up with fiction. You die on October 31st, on your own carpet, while people laugh outside. [PART IV – THE CYNICAL FINALE] Tomorrow they'll find you. They'll take down the decorations. Seal off your house. And someone will wonder why nobody noticed anything. “Wait ... that's ridiculous. What a stupid story ... My imagination really is running away with me.” The doorbell rings. Voices at the door: “Trick or treat!” I smile. A broad grin. Then I open the door. I keep the knife hidden behind my back. Happy Halloween. Lyrics copyright 10/2026 Kati Weber All rights reserved
