The temples stood with open doors yet no one came to pray, For every truth we'd built our lives upon had burned away. The prophets lost their holy books, the kings their sacred right, And many cursed the empty sky that vanished in the night. Some begged for chains to bind them back and tell them what was true, For freedom weighed far heavier than any laws they knew. The angels walked among the earth with folded, broken wings, No longer servants of a throne or messengers of kings. The demons left their mountain forts and laid their banners down, And built beside the very towns they once had burned to ground. The scars of war remained for years on every field and road, For peace could not erase the cost of every life it owed. I wandered through the ruins where the final battle passed, And listened to the ghosts of all the ages fading fast. The children born after the war would never understand, How terror ruled the hearts of those who served a dead command. They asked us why we fought so long and why the heavens lied, And none of us could find the words no matter how we tried. For all the blood and sacrifice, the cities turned to dust, Had grown from men who feared themselves and called that fear their trust. The stars returned one after one across the wounded sky, And for the first time in an age no voice explained why. No prophecy defined our path, no judgment waited near, No promised crown beyond the grave, no everlasting fear. The future stood before us like an ocean dark and wide, A place no god had ever mapped and none could safely guide. Some saw despair within that truth and chose to turn away, But others saw a chance to build a better world someday. Not Heaven forged from golden walls above the clouds and sun, But one created here below by everything we'd done. I climbed the silent throne at last where judgment used to be, And found no power waiting there, no hidden destiny. Just empty stone and open skies beyond the shattered dome, As if the universe itself was telling us to go home. So let the ancient kingdoms fade and let their legends end, The age of gods is over now; the world is ours to bend. No savior waits beyond the stars, no master holds the reins, The future lives within the hands of those who still remain. And if the heavens truly died ages before our birth, Then maybe all the hope we sought was always meant for Earth.
