Keep Mowing the lawn
# MOWING THE LAWN [Verse 1] They call it mowing the lawn Like it’s an easy chore, As though the grass stays where you cut And doesn’t grow some more. Then neighbor cuts his lawn next door, His lines are clean and straight. I look outside and see my grass— Now I can’t let mine wait. [Pre-Chorus] I press the button, motor starts, The mower rolls along. I push ahead in straight green lines— Another round begins. [Chorus] Keep mowing, mowing, Round and round. Cutting down the grass, Walking on the ground. Keep mowing, mowing, The front yard, back, and all. I finish mowing everything— Then watch it growing tall. [Verse 2] Spring comes around, the rain comes down, The grass shoots up so fast. I mow it twice a week sometimes— And still it grows right back. The summer sun is overhead, I’m sweating through my shirt. I circle trees and flower beds And cover shoes with dirt. [Pre-Chorus] It isn’t done when I think it’s done. There’s always one more place: A little strip I somehow missed Is staring at my face. [Chorus] Keep mowing, mowing, Round and round. Cutting down the grass, Walking on the ground. Keep mowing, mowing, The front yard, back, and all. I finish mowing everything— Then watch it growing tall. [Verse 3] Then autumn comes, the leaves fall down, They cover up the ground. I run the mower through the piles And mulch them round and round. Keep mulching, mulching, Round and round. Chewing through the leaves That cover all the ground. Keep mulching, mulching, Red and gold and brown. I finish mulching everything— More leaves come falling down. [Bridge] Not one blade knows the work I did. The grass does not care. My neighbor mows, so there I go— I can’t just leave it there. And every leaf I mulch today Gets replaced again. Spring is grass and fall is leaves— Then I start again. [Final Chorus] Keep mowing, mowing, Round and round. Cutting down the grass, Walking on the ground. Keep mowing, mowing, The front yard, back, and all. In spring I mow it twice a week— In fall I mulch them all. [Outro] Mowing season— It never really ends. Neighbor cuts, so I cut too— Then do it all again.
