They Call Me Crazy

Verse 1 There’s someone sitting next to me when no one else is there. She whispers in the morning. She follows me upstairs. I answer her sometimes, just to make the silence stop. People watch me talking to someone they cannot see. They shake their heads and whisper, "There she goes again." They call me crazy. But I am not crazy. I am sick. Verse 2 There are voices in my bedroom. There are voices in the hall. Some of them are gentle. Some of them are cruel. One tells me I am worthless. One reminds me of my past. Another sounds like someone I haven't seen in years. And sometimes I start crying before I even know why. Because the voice inside my head knows exactly where it hurts. Pre-Chorus I wish they could hear them. Just once. Maybe then they'd understand why I look so tired. Chorus They call me crazy when I talk to the empty room. They don't hear the voices that are screaming through my walls. They don't feel the fear when the whispers get too close. They don't see me shaking when I beg them all to go. I'm not talking to nobody. I'm talking to a world that only I can hear. And I'm so tired of being afraid inside my own head. Verse 3 Some voices make me angry. Some voices make me cry. Some sound almost human until they change before my eyes. One tells me that I'm ugly. Another says I'm weak. Another keeps repeating all the things I shouldn't be. And I know they aren't the truth. I know they aren't who I am. But knowing doesn't make it quiet. Knowing doesn't make it stop. Bridge Sometimes I sit alone with my hands against my ears. As if I could shut the whole world out by pressing hard enough. I whisper, "Please, leave me alone." But nobody outside the room knows who I'm talking to. And that's the loneliest part. Chorus They call me crazy because I answer voices. They laugh when I turn around and there's nobody there. But they don't know how real it feels to me. They don't know how frightening a mind can become when you can't trust what you hear. I'm not looking for attention. I'm not trying to be strange. I'm just trying to survive another night inside my head. Verse 4 Sometimes there are quiet moments. Minutes where nobody speaks. I sit beside the window and listen to the rain. And for a little while I almost recognize myself. Then another voice appears. And the room feels smaller. And I remember that silence was never mine to keep. Chorus They call me crazy. Maybe that's easier than saying I'm hurting. Maybe it's easier to point at me than to ask me what I need. But I'm still a woman beneath all these voices. Still somebody's daughter. Still somebody who feels. And when I cry because another voice has broken me, I wish someone would sit beside me without judging what they see. I wish someone would say, "I know you're sick. I know you're scared. And I don't think you're crazy." Outro Tonight, there are voices in the darkness again. Some whisper. Some scream. Some call me names. I close my eyes and wait for morning. Not because the voices disappear. But because somewhere underneath them, there is still me— quietly waiting to be heard. (ahhhh)
