Ravenlight Pool Concerto grew far beyond the single birthday piece I first imagined. I created three complete versions from three different instrumental seeds and connected them into one continuous concert of almost fourteen minutes. Each movement follows its own current, yet all three belong to the same night: one intimate, one restless, one openly triumphant. At the centre is the NS Design CR5 five-string electric cello. Its low C gives the music depth, while the high E string lets the lead rise into bright harmonics and upper melodies. The cello moves through portamento lines, double-stops, left-hand pizzicato, ricochet bowing and rapid cross-string runs. It carries the full story. The concert settled into a driving 4/4 pulse. Deep tagelharpa drones form the dark ground, violin lines answer the cello, and taiko with low war drums add physical force without taking over. Metallic accents and bowed textures suggest water and reflected light, while the sound remains organic and free of electronic dance production. Emotionally, this is more than a birthday concert. It holds joy, gratitude, memory and the quiet pause that comes when another year begins. I imagined the music travelling across dark pool water, every bow stroke breaking the reflection and rebuilding it in a different shape. Three versions became three views of the same moment. Most of all, this concert is my thank-you. Thank you to every friend who remembered my birthday, sent a message, shared music, made me laugh or simply stayed close. I read every wish with a very full heart. Some of you have walked beside me for a long time, while others entered my life more recently, but each of you helped make this day feel warm and real. Thank you for your kindness, your humour, your strange ideas, your stories, your music and your presence. Thank you not only for the birthday wishes, but simply for being here. This concert is my birthday gift back to you: three currents, one pool, one raven and one five-string cello carrying all the words I could not fit into a message. I am deeply grateful that our paths crossed. 💜🖤
