Sleep, my child, sleep so long Like children near and far, In quiet beds where dreams belong, Beneath the evening star. Sleep, my child, sleep so long, While I tuck you in so tight, Softly humming you your song In the tender night. Sleep, my child, sleep so long, The Earth turns round and slow, Like distant stars that drift along In silver, gentle glow. Sleep, my child, sleep so long, Let calm and slumber start, Let peaceful dreams grow warm and strong Inside your little heart. Sleep, my child, sleep so long, Let day’s small fears grow light, Let night’s soft lanterns lead along Your thoughts in dreams tonight. Sleep, my child, sleep so long, Count to ten, then start once more, Count again the whole night long As waves upon the shore. Sleep, my child, sleep so long, I’m watching close by you, Nothing here can turn out wrong — No fear can follow through. Sleep, my child, sleep so long, Your teddy sleeps nearby, Your doll keeps watch the whole night long As moonlight fills the sky. ________________________________________ Sleep, my child, sleep so long, Like children far and near, I hold you safe where you belong With songs you love to hear. I’m watching here, I’m stroking you, No need for fear tonight — My arms will keep you safely through Till morning brings its light. ________________________________________ Sleep, my child, sleep so long, The Earth turns endlessly, With distant stars that shine so strong Across the midnight sea. Count to ten and start again, Count softly as you lie, Let sleep now take you gently then Where glowing dream-worlds fly. ________________________________________ Sleep, my child, sleep so long, Let day’s faint shadows fade, Let night’s bright lanterns, calm and strong, Fill dreams that they have made. Your teddy sleeps, your doll stands near, Let drifting sleep begin — I sing your songs, I’m always here, And guard your dreams within. ________________________________________ Sleep, my child, sleep so long, My heart beats close to you, In rhythm with your dream-paths strong Where wonders all come true. In sleep, adventures wait to start, With joy that will not end — I’m here beside you, heart to heart, Forever as your friend.
