Babylonian Disenchantment (The Stars No Longer Speak to Us)
Horns of clay call dust to memory Breath of gods in brick and flame Every river speaks a name Every star bends low to hear us The world is thick with signs and omens Blood and sky are intertwined Gods walk barefoot through the market Truth is carved in stone and time No distance yet between the fire And the hand that dares to pray All is spell and manifestation Nothing silent, nothing far away We lived inside the breathing cosmos Every act a sacred scar Law descended as a thunder Wisdom burned in sun and tar Here the heavens pressed upon us Heavy with divinity Meaning flooded every gesture No escape from mystery But cracks appeared in sacred bronze Questions sharpened into blades If the infinite is perfect Why does form begin to fade? What if God withdraws from matter Unseen, unspoken, undefined? What if reason guards the threshold Where the mythic once entwined? The world grows quiet, gods recede From flame and field, from blood and seed No longer bound to stone or sign The holy slips from space and time Babylonian disenchantment Loss of wonder, gain of sight From living gods to hidden law From sacred fire to abstract light Not in image, not in name Not in wrath nor mortal frame The highest truth denies its shape So thought may pass where idols break Negation guards the sacred core To name is to confine Through reason’s path, through stripped belief We approach the divine The poets mourn the silent skies The priests recall the weight of gods But clarity cuts through the veil Cold and sharp, yet deeply flawed For what is lost in endless signs Returns as law and mind Yet longing aches for voices past Still echoing in time The world grows quiet, gods recede Yet reason plants a different seed No longer bound to dust and flame The truth survives without a name Babylonian disenchantment Not mere loss, but transformation From enchanted flesh of heaven To transcendent separation The stars no longer speak to us Yet still they burn the same In silent order, distant law We search, we think, we name Hope is colder than belief But harder still to break From shattered gods and emptied skies A different faith we take
