Cherry Stain

[Verse 1] The scanner beeps real quiet Late shift on a Tuesday night A guy buys a tube of cherry balm Slips it across the counter palm I hit total and hand back change Funny how a scent makes things change [Chorus] Cherry stain and red dye on your thumb Sitting on the porch till August was done We let the Popsicles melt to the stick You laughed and said time moves too quick It was simple like that Yeah it was simple like that (Simple like that) [Verse 2] Girl after him wears your big grey sweater I remember when the weather got better She counts out exact quarters and dimes Takes me back to those easy times I don't even feel sad tonight Just warm inside the overhead light [Chorus] Cherry stain and red dye on your thumb Sitting on the porch till August was done We let the Popsicles melt to the stick You laughed and said time moves too quick It was simple like that Yeah it was simple like that (Simple like that) [Bridge] Maybe you still keep a tube in your coat Or maybe that summer is just a faint note A sweet simple memory preserved in a cap Before the road led us off of the map I put the balm away under the glass Smiling at how fast the seasons pass [Chorus] Cherry stain and red dye on your thumb Sitting on the porch till August was done We let the Popsicles melt to the stick You laughed and said time moves too quick It was simple like that Yeah it was simple like that (Simple like that) [Outro] Cherry red on your thumb (Till August was done) Melted down to the stick Time moved way too quick Yeah it was simple like that (Simple like that) It was simple like that
