a thousand eyes turned upward like the ceiling cracked open wide neighbors standing in driveways with the whole city outside no tickets, no warning no stage, no show just silent shapes moving where the desert winds blow a giant shadow with a perfect design cutting through darkness, holding its line no engine screaming no thunder sound just a question floating above the ground people grabbed cameras people grabbed phones trying to prove something they already known funny thing about truth when it walks through town everybody sees it but nobody writes it down phoenix lights phoenix lights who owns the sky on a strange night phoenix lights phoenix lights a thousand stories one set of eyes was it a plane? was it a flame? was it just shadows playing a game? phoenix lights still burning bright mystery don't disappear just because you turn off the light phoenix phoenix..... lights the official said "relax, stay calm" everybody looked up like "that ain't the same song" put a label on the mystery put a folder on the fear funny how a question gets smaller when paperwork appears "nothing to see" the famous line usually arrives right on time a flare in the distance a story explained but the shape in the sky still lives in the brain people love answers clean and neat mystery walks in and ruins the seat like a guest at dinner nobody invited still eating dessert while everybody's divided a man in a suit laughed told everybody "look away" years went passing then he changed what he'd say maybe he saw something maybe he saw the same maybe the sky wrote a question and forgot to sign its name phoenix lights phoenix lights phoenix..... lights years kept moving desert stayed dry same old stars still hanging high kids became parents stories became legends photographs faded but not the questions maybe it was nothing maybe it was more maybe humans just hate an unlocked door we build little boxes for everything we know then something flies over and reminds us we don't phoenix lights phoenix lights a thousand voices one silent night phoenix lights phoenix lights still asking questions still chasing signs phoenix lights we were watching too! desert
