Rolling On For All Eternity

"The Endless Mile" [Interlude - Sam (female)] (The track opens with the sound of a massive V8 engine revving up, settling into a heavy, thumping idle. A fast, distorted acoustic guitar starts a driving rhythm. Spoken word, smooth and philosophical.) The universe has a sorting system. The righteous go up, the wicked go down. It’s a simple machine. But every once in a while, the system hits a glitch it can't process. A man who carries too much darkness for the sky, but protects his family with too much pure iron for the basement. When the system can't figure out where to put you, it just leaves you on the board. Forever. [Verse 1 - Matt (male)] (The drums kick in—a fast, driving 120 BPM highway beat. Matt's voice is gravelly, loud, and full of reckless joy.) I pulled up to the crossroads just to see which way to go Looked up at the clouds and looked down at the fire below Saint Peter took my file, said, "You got too much rust and blood." The devil shook his head, said, "You got too much love and mud." I’m a complicated engine, I’m a masterpiece of sin But I got a golden anchor keeping all the demons in So the angels locked the gate, and the demons built a wall And left me in the middle just to outlive 'em all! [Pre-Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (A wailing slide guitar matches the high-speed rhythm.) (Matt - male) I got a permanent vacation... (Sam - female) ...from the reaper and the grave. (Matt - male) I’m a violent aberration... (Sam - female) ...that the heavens couldn't save. [Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (The full band explodes. A massive, high-speed Southern rock-metal groove. Cymbals crashing, guitars shredding.) (Matt - male) I’m too damn evil for the pearly white gates! (Sam - female) He’s too damn good for the devil's hot plates! (Matt - male) Too mean to let die, but too good to let spoil! Just a runaway engine burning up the endless oil! If heaven won't take me and hell sets me free, (Both) I guess I’m just rolling for all eternity! YEAH, I’M ROLLING ON FOR ALL ETERNITY! [Verse 2 - Matt (male)] (The beat drops to just the heavy, driving bass and drums. Delivery is fast, rhythmic, and arrogant.) I’m gonna outlive the mountains, I’m gonna outlive the sun I’m the only outlaw that the reaper couldn't outrun I’ll just cruise the Texas coast, keep the .380 clean Keep the engine running hot and the perimeter mean Time is just a clock and I done broke all the hands I’m a permanent fixture walking on the island sands So tell the undertaker he can put away the dirt I’m practically immortal, and I don't ever hurt! [Pre-Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (The tension winds up tight. A harmonica screams like a siren.) (Matt - male) I lost my expiration... (Sam - female) ...he tore up the date. (Matt - male) I am the destination... (Sam - female) ...and he’s never running late. [Chorus - Matt (male) & Sam (female)] (Maximum volume, the engine hitting the absolute redline.) (Matt - male) I’m too damn evil for the pearly white gates! [Bridge - Matt (male)] (The music strips back to a single, chugging electric guitar riff and a heavy kick drum. Voice drops to a gritty, confident drawl.) They thought they were punishing me. They thought leaving me out here in the wind was a curse. But they forgot one thing. I love the road. And I got a full tank of gas. [Outro - Sam (female) & Matt (male)] (The fast, driving highway beat kicks back in, slowly fading out as if the car is driving off into the distance.) (Sam - female - singing high and wild) He’s a ghost on the highway... he’s a ghost on the coast... (Matt - male - spoken over the fading beat) See you in a thousand years, world. (The sound of tires squealing on asphalt, an engine roaring into the distance, and the track fades into the wind.)
