When Love Dies (for Ashley, v1)
A gentle rain taps on the roof, And softly raps on the windows. Its steady rhythm lulls me into a faint memory, As I stare at an old photograph of my sister. Her… Her almond eyes gaze to the left Beyond the edge of the photo paper; Her wide, toothy smile compels my own And I wonder what happy memory She could have been treasuring. But no one knew then that those deep eyes Would soon see darker things, troubled times; And that her smile would soon fade, Fade away like the blue sky before the rain. This is what happens when love turns. This is what happens when love lies. This is what happens when love hurts. This is what happens when love dies. In this world there are some lights That are forced to dim, Beautiful souls that are diminished By another's whims. And I want to tell the girl in the photo That I'm sorry life turned on her. I wish I had told her that punches should not be weathered. “Don’t go with him,” I wish I had told her. This is what happens when love turns. This is what happens when love lies. This is what happens when love hurts. This is what happens when love dies. This is what happens when love dies... When love dies. But, it wasn't "love" at all, was it?
