[Verse 1] The grill’s gone cold on the back porch Plastic cups stacked by the sink Tan lines fading on your shoulders You say “guess that’s it ” then you blink [Chorus] Last breath of summer on your lips Salt and sunscreen on my fingertips Holding on too long to the heat on your skin Windows down Tell September “don’t come in” Last breath of summer Don’t exhale If we stay right here Time can fail One more slow dance in this heavy air Like the sun forgot we’re there [Verse 2] Sand in the floor of your small car Sweat-heart scribbled on the glass Your playlist stuck on that same part You skip it Say “we’ll let it pass” (uh-uh) [Chorus] Last breath of summer on your lips Salt and sunscreen on my fingertips Holding on too long to the heat on your skin Windows down Tell September “don’t come in” Last breath of summer Don’t exhale If we stay right here Time can fail One more slow dance in this heavy air Like the sun forgot we’re there [Bridge] We park by the water But the water feels tired You say “call me in autumn” Like it’s not on fire I laugh a little louder Than the joke you made Just to cover up the part That’s already afraid [Chorus] Last breath of summer on your lips Salt and sunscreen on my fingertips Holding on too long to the heat on your skin Windows down Tell September “don’t come in” Last breath of summer Don’t exhale If we stay right here Time can fail One more slow dance in this heavy air Till the summer disappears And we’re still there
