concept: the speaker is dead. what you hear are his own voice notes, being played back - by the speaker's ghost, caught in a loop. each stanza is a fragment of memory, playing through damaged time [Tape hiss begins.] [Background: distant breathing loop + light static crackle] hey... just wanted to say, I saw your shadow in the hallway again. you weren’t there. but... the dust moved. you know? --- [GLITCHED TIMESTAMP: "0:2...1...four-"] [Ambient: low drone, faint faucet drip, sub-bass pulse begins softly] 02:14am. I heard it again. something in the sink. not water. more like breathing. but... slower than it should be. --- [TAPE HICCUP – speaker’s voice briefly doubles, out of phase] [Whispers layer underneath like memories overlapping] you left a note, but it wasn’t your handwriting. you signed it “me.” and that’s the part that scared me most. --- [PLAYBACK ARTIFACT – reversed door slam, low piano note reversed into breath] [Stereo echo of speaker's own name glitches in one ear] I played our last call backwards. you say my name halfway through. I never noticed. my name. in your voice. but it sounded... tired. like it was remembering me too late. --- [UNDERWATER CHIME – filtered bell + wind under door] [Deep ambient pulse hits every 2 bars, heartbeat-like] you asked if I was listening. I wasn’t. but the silence said yes anyway. --- [STATIC FLARE – granular delay on word: “still?”] [Soft footsteps pass behind the left ear] there was a message I didn’t send. I kept it. it said: “if you ever feel like someone’s standing behind you… don’t turn around.” I still don’t know who it was meant for. --- [BUZZING PHONE – muffled, looping. A synthetic bird call glitches in briefly.] [Reversed radio scan builds tension beneath] sometimes the phone buzzes once at the same time every night. no number. just “unknown.” but it’s the same buzz as your old one. you know, the way it used to stutter before dying. --- [TAPE WARBLE – hiss swells] [Speaker’s voice begins to layer in two tones : one warm, one cold] I’m keeping all of these. your voice... in pieces. you always said nothing is ever really deleted. so I don’t delete you. not ever. --- [CLICK.] [Long silence. Then… faint loop begins:] "hey... just wanted to say - " [The line repeats, distorted, unraveling, swallowed in static.] [Memory dissolves into endless reverb.]
