Something Strange is Going On

Something Strange Is Going On Something strange is going on Something strange is going on Look over here And not over there Something strange is going on You can’t tell me facts are political Some things happened or they didn’t But not both Or they wouldn’t be truth or lies But you can’t quite say Or wouldn’t Or don’t want to Or it isn’t right to say But blame the dead guy He can’t stand up and cry Something strange is going on Something strange is going on Everybody knows But nobody knows And nobody knows How everybody knows Something strange is going on Funny how the story gets wilder Every time somebody leaves the room Funny how the missing little pieces Never find their way back into the news Why don’t simple questions Have simple answers anymore Something strange is going on Look over here And not over there Something strange is going on Now the words have all got new meanings And the meanings change depending who says them And everybody’s absolutely certain Even when it’s certain they’re wrong Who pulled the strings to break common sense What’s supposed to be common is rare And what was once rare is common Integrity or capitulation Capitalism killed one And everyone got fucked by the other Everyone bend over and take it all at once and at the same time Something strange is going on Something strange is going on Sure, blame the dead guy He won’t disagree Blame the dead guy He can’t cry Just his mother and daughter and friend and neighbor But the nation watches in a fever Draw a beard on his face Put him in a hoodie He’s a gangster Not a kid with a chill walking home from school Give him the gun and let’s drive through a pool Something strange is going on Something strange is going on Look over here And not over there Nothing to see here Nothing at all Something strange is going on Something strange is going on Something strange is going on
