(Vers 1) He sits on the cold concrete, Last night’s bed was a subway bench, Freezing from the head to his feet. Now he sits with a sign, Begging for some change or a small meal. He’s got wounds that won’t heal, Dirty and cold, Tired and looks old, Shameful and lost, With no one to trust. ⸻ (Refreng) He’s hungry, he’s cold, Getting old, getting bold, Hated for being dirty and alone. The one without sin can throw the first stone. Nobody helps him, they just want him gone. He’s somebody’s son. ⸻ (Vers 2) The only thing that can chase the demons away Is through the needle, but there is a price to pay. The more he takes, the further he gets lost on his way. This ain’t no place you wanna stay, But he ain’t got no place to go. No loved ones want him home. His only escape is staying chemical stoned. ⸻ (Refreng) He’s hungry, he’s cold, Getting old, getting bold, Hated for being dirty and alone. The one without sin can throw the first stone. Nobody helps him, they just want him gone. He’s somebody’s son. ⸻ (Vers 3) He was an average guy, Happy and always had a smile. Hardworking and had some dignity, But he fell in love with this junkie beauty. She played him selfish, used all his money, Got him hooked on that deadly honey. Her name was Beth. One year later he was homeless and hooked on meth, Alone, because he was broke — so she left. ⸻ (Refreng) He’s hungry, he’s cold, Getting old, getting bold, Hated for being dirty and alone. The one without sin can throw the first stone. Nobody helps him, they just want him gone. He’s somebody’s son. ⸻ (Vers 4) He’s just skin and bones. If he meets the Reaper, nobody knows. Just another nameless grave. He’s just another that has lost his way. He made stupid choices and now he pays, Alone and forgotten, Neglected and rotten, Cursed and begs for a penny and some pity. He holds out his hand to the happy and the wealthy. He looks down when he sees someone fresh and pretty. He still remembers who he used to be, But that’s just a fading memory. Through the needle, he escapes reality. ⸻ (Refreng – avslutning) He’s hungry, he’s cold, Getting old, getting bold, Hated for being dirty and alone. The one without sin can throw the first stone. Nobody helps him, they just want him gone. He’s somebody’s son.
