[Verse 1] The movie wasn't much to talk about You guessed the ending twenty minutes in We stepped into the evening by the river Still laughing at the hero's borrowed grin The buses passed us twice without a wave Neither one was trying hard to get away [Pre-Chorus] I bought the tickets for the screen But you were all the good part of the evening [Chorus] The best part was the walk When we forgot to watch the clock You told me what you want to do I told you what I'm working through The best part was the walk All the little space between the talk I planned a night out on the town You made the way home count [Verse 2] You pointed out the flat where you first lived And how you painted over someone else's flowers I told you 'bout the place I learned to cook And all the pasta I apologized for after We reached your corner, stood another while The city found a gentler kind of light [Pre-Chorus] I bought the tickets for the screen But you were all the good part of the evening [Chorus] The best part was the walk When we forgot to watch the clock You told me what you want to do I told you what I'm working through The best part was the walk All the little space between the talk I planned a night out on the town You made the way home count [Bridge - intimate solo vocal, piano and strings] Some nights are worth remembering For things that never made a plan A story by a traffic light And the courage of a reaching hand [Instrumental interlude - orchestra and rhythm section, no vocals] [Final Chorus] The best part was the walk When we forgot to watch the clock You told me what you want to do I told you what I'm working through The best part was the walk All the little space between the talk I planned a night out on the town You made the way home count [Outro] No hurry at the corner The best part was the walk
