The First House on the Moon [NDC TT Opera]

[Overture] [CHOIR - distant, sustained] Ah - ah - ah - Welcome home… (welcome home…) Bold ideas… (bold ideas…) --- [Act I - Departure, solo tenor, grounded but yearning] [TENOR - warm, reflective] We have been here before in fire, in flags, in footprints fading Names carved in dust that does not remember [CHOIR - soft echo] Remember… remember… [TENOR] Apollo spoke once through fragile breath and burning light “We’ve had a problem” - and still he came home [CHOIR - gentle swell] He… Found home… [TENOR - rising] But this is not that journey This is not a flag not a mark not a claim This is something bigger… --- [Transition - light rhythmic pulse] [CHOIR - whispered rhythm] Living… living… On the Moon… --- [Act II - Journey, soprano enters] [SOPRANO - distant] Between the Earth and silence We’re longing to lift off Weightless No ground, no door, no window No place to be [TENOR + SOPRANO - duet] Where are we when nothing holds us back? What are we when we arrive? [CHOIR - layered, growing] Living… living… On the Moon… --- [Act III - stillness] [CHOIR - hushed awe] There - There in the dust - [TENOR - soft, astonished] A shape… too small for meaning [SOPRANO] A color against forever [CHOIR - clearer] Red against the white. --- [Act IV - The House, intimate, almost sacred] [TENOR - quiet reverence] A house no larger than a memory [SOPRANO] Nobody there no hand on the door [CHOIR - soft, repeating motif] Living… living… On the Moon… [TENOR] It was carried beyond all roads [SOPRANO] It was placed where nothing stays [CHOIR - gently layered] where nothing stays (nothing stays) [TENOR + SOPRANO - harmonizing] It may come with problems - and still become home --- [Subtle fracture - hint of truth beneath myth] [CHOIR - fragmented, irregular] Falling - breaking - crashing - [TENOR - soft, steady, overriding] And now - it stands [CHOIR - resolves] Living… living… On the Moon… --- [Act V - Entering (symbolic), swelling harmony] [SOPRANO - intimate] I open no door - and yet I enter [TENOR] No walls surround me - and yet I am inside [CHOIR - warm, expanding] Finally present --- [Build - emotional realization] [TENOR] I did not come to conquer the silence [SOPRANO] I did not come to leave another mark [TENOR + SOPRANO] I came to carry what I could not leave behind [CHOIR - rising] What we could not forget --- [Climax - full choir, luminous] [FULL CHOIR] A house with no door no bed, no even floor A house in the cold - home for the bold [TENOR - over choir] Not wood, not stone - [SOPRANO] Not found, not owned - [FULL CHOIR] The first house not even built here [ALL] it was carried by our dreams [CHOIR - resolves] Living… living… On the Moon… --- [Resolution - gentle descent] [SOPRANO - soft] It faces the Earth [TENOR] It never looks away [CHOIR] Never returning… Always yearning… --- [Ending] [CHOIR - very soft, repeating] A small red house… with white trim... A small red house… welcoming us in… Ah - ah - ah - Oh - oh - oh [CHOIR - resolves] Living… living… On the Moon… [TENOR + SOPRANO - harmonizing] Where dreams may travel - and ideas find their home -------------- The First House on the Moon [NDC TT Opera] Copyright © 2026 JAG for NDC Throwback Thursday Genre: Opera Theme: Going to the Moon Inspired by the artist placing a model of a Swedish archetypical house on the moon. https://themoonhouse.se/thework Apparently the lander crashed, but dreams brought the Moonhouse there and it’s now the home for bold ideas. The First House on the Moon. Please pass my apologies to Verdi. The line between Opera and Musical Theatre is sometimes thin and this piece landed on the wrong side, but whatever I did wrong, dreams brought it home in my opinion. --------------
