THE FUNERAL OF MY SANITY✨️ROWENA | 🎶The Mad Queen of Midnight
[Intro – Spoken, theatrical whisper, ticking clock] Ladies and gentlemen... Dearly departed... And those who haven't quite decided... Welcome to my funeral! (Laughs wickedly) Oh, don't look so miserable! I'm having a MARVELLOUS time! [Verse 1 – Playful, smoky cabaret voice] I got an invitation at a quarter past eleven, Written by a corpse who claimed to work in heaven. "Dear Miss Rowena, wear your finest shade of black, Your sanity has died, and we won't be bringing it back!" I found a little coffin underneath the chandelier, A duke without a heartbeat offered me a beer. My common sense was lying there, a rose between its teeth, And seventeen dead aristocrats were dancing underneath! [Pre-Chorus – Whisper rising to operatic shriek] Oh, what a tragedy! Oh, what a crime! I've buried all my reason... And I'm having SUCH A TIME! [Chorus – Explosive theatrical punk cabaret] Bury my sanity! Ring every bell! Send all my manners Straight down to hell! Dance with the skeletons! Laugh at the grave! I've never felt so wonderfully WICKEDLY BRAVE! Ha-ha-ha! One, two, THREE! There's no one left to rescue me! [Verse 2 – Mocking, eccentric character voices] The duchess lost her eyeballs in a game of hide-and-seek, The bishop kissed a mirror and it slapped him on the cheek. A puppet called Napoleon demanded back his throne, So I crowned him with a teapot and a very rotten scone! The orchestra was playing with a dozen broken bones, The cellist was a ghost who kept complaining about loans. I climbed upon the coffin, raised a glass of ruby wine, And shouted, "Darling, madness is a talent quite divine!" [Pre-Chorus – Low growl into soaring operatic high] Oh, such a scandal! Oh, such a sight! My last remaining brain cell Has eloped with Mr. Night! [Chorus – Wild and theatrical] Bury my sanity! Ring every bell! Send all my manners Straight down to hell! Dance with the skeletons! Laugh at the grave! I've never felt so wonderfully WICKEDLY BRAVE! Ha-ha-ha! One, two, THREE! There's no one left to rescue me! [Bridge – Music stops, whispered dialogue] (Whispering) But then... The coffin... Knocked. (Knock... knock... knock...) A tiny voice said: "Rowena... let me out." (Spoken, sweetly) My darling little sanity... Whatever for? (Manic laughter) [Verse 3 – Dramatic, increasingly unhinged] I opened up the coffin and my reason stood upright, She wore my face, my corset, and my favorite hat that night! She said, "You cannot live without the order that I bring!" I said, "Then watch me, sweetheart!" and began to dance and sing! We waltzed across the ceiling as the midnight candles cried, The mirrors screamed in harmony, the skeletons replied. She tried to steal my shadow, but I stole her final breath, And made her queen of nothing at the masquerade of death! [Final Chorus – Operatic heights, punk guitars, full ensemble] BURY MY SANITY! LET THE CHURCH BELLS SCREAM! I'M THE MAD QUEEN OF MIDNIGHT! AND THIS IS MY DREAM! Dance with the skeletons! Set the whole stage free! There's nothing quite as dangerous AS A WOMAN BEING ME! [Outro – Music collapses into solo piano] (Softly, almost tenderly) Rest in peace, my darling reason... (Whisper) You were terribly boring. (Laughter, then sudden silence) (Knock... knock...) (From inside the coffin, a tiny voice) "Encore?" (One enormous operatic shriek) ENCOOOOOORE!
