Worn Out Shoes

V6

Verse 1 There’s a road I know by memory, every turn, every faded sign. I could walk it in the darkness and still know where the shoulders lie. There are houses I stopped seeing, names I stopped saying aloud, dreams that once stood at the roadside now disappearing in the crowd. Somewhere up ahead there’s a crossing I avoid. One way looks unfamiliar. One way carries what I know. So I keep to the old direction where the distance feels like home. Pre-Chorus Maybe comfort isn’t peace. Maybe staying isn’t choice. Maybe fear gets good at speaking in a reasonable voice. Chorus I keep walking the road I know, though I don’t know where it goes. Every mile feels worn and familiar, every turn already shows. There are new roads calling somewhere, but I never make the move. I’d rather trust the ground beneath me than find out what I might lose. And somewhere underneath it all, I still wear these worn out shoes. Verse 2 I’ve watched people leave their old lives like a coat left on a chair, walk into an empty morning with no promise waiting there. I tell myself they’re reckless. I tell myself I’m wise. But some nights that sounds like cowardice wearing a good disguise. There’s a life I could be living that I only meet in thought. A different town, a different rhythm, a different version of what I’ve got. But the first step feels like losing before anything is won. Pre-Chorus 2 I know the ache of staying. I don’t know the ache of change. And somehow what is hurting me still feels safer than the strange. Bridge One day this road may narrow till there’s nowhere left to go. One day all the signs behind me may be all I’ll ever know. Then I’ll have to face the question I keep pushing out of view: Was I walking toward a future, or just wearing something through? Build-Up Maybe the fear is not the journey. Maybe the fear is being new. Final Chorus I keep walking the road I know, though I don’t know where it goes. Every mile feels worn and familiar, every turn already shows. There are new roads calling somewhere, and someday I’ll have to choose: keep trusting every step behind me, or risk the skin I’m scared to bruise. Till that day I walk this old road in these worn out shoes. Outro The road goes on. So do I. For now.
