I’ve always been drawn to the nostalgic and surreal soundscapes of vaporwave, with its dreamy synths, chopped vocal samples, and retro-futuristic vibes. When I started exploring the idea of creating my own vaporwave track, I wanted to infuse it with a rich narrative and a sense of adventure. That’s when I turned to the Dungeons & Dragons universe for inspiration. The Astral Sea immediately stood out to me. It’s a place of infinite possibilities—a silvery, timeless void filled with swirling nebulae, floating islands, and ancient ruins. But it’s also a dangerous place, where travelers must navigate psychic winds, githyanki pirates, and otherworldly entities. This duality—beauty and danger, serenity and chaos—felt like the perfect foundation for a song. I imagined an adventurer setting sail on a spelljammer ship, their journey filled with awe-inspiring sights and heart-pounding encounters. The lyrics and soundscape evolved to reflect this narrative, blending vaporwave’s dreamy textures with orchestral swells, lo-fi beats, and cosmic sounds.
