V6

Down in the land of Zorah, a promise was made, An angel of Yahweh brought word to a maid. “A son you shall bear, set apart from his birth, A Nazirite unto Yahweh, a light on the earth. No razor shall touch him, his vow he shall keep, For Yahweh has chosen him, His promise runs deep.” And Samson was born, and the young man grew strong, But the road he would travel would not all be long. Oh, Samson, Samson, mighty was your hand, But strength without obedience cannot help a man. The Spirit gave you power, but pride can make you fall, And Yahweh, He alone, is the greatest strength of all. Oh, Samson, Samson, your story still remains, A mighty man can stumble, yet Yahweh still reigns! A lion came roaring as Samson drew near, The Spirit of Yahweh drove out all his fear. He tore it apart with his bare hands alone, And later found honey where death had been sown. Three hundred foxes with their tails set aflame, He burned the Philistines' harvest and grain. Then armed with a jawbone, he stood all alone, A thousand fell before him, the battle was won! Then Delilah came with her sweet-sounding lies, She searched for the secret that strength could disguise. He played with the truth, but he would not depart, Till he told her the secret that lay near his heart. Asleep in her lap, he was shorn of his hair, The Philistines seized him; no strength was there. They blinded his eyes, put him fast in their chains, And ground grain in darkness, enduring their shame. But down in the darkness, his hair started to grow, And somewhere within him, a hope started to glow. They gathered to mock him, their victory to claim, They praised their own gods and they jeered at his name. Then Samson cried out, as he leaned on the stone, “Remember me, Yahweh! I'm here all alone! Give me Your strength just this once more again, Let me stand for Your people and bring judgment on them!” He reached for the pillars, one hand on each side, The strength of his youth and his pride cast aside. “Let me die with the Philistines!” rose up his cry, And the pillars came crashing beneath the dark sky. The house fell around them, the mighty were slain, The laughter was silenced, the triumph was pain. More died in his final act there that day, Than all he had slain in his life till that day. Oh, Samson, Samson, mighty was your hand, But strength without obedience cannot help a man. Yet you called upon Yahweh when your strength was gone, And He heard your final cry before your race was run. Oh, Samson, Samson, your story still remains, Not the strength of a man, but Yahweh who reigns! So listen, my brother, let the story be told, A heart can grow careless, a spirit grow cold. Don't boast in your strength, don't trust in your might, Stay faithful to Yahweh and walk in His light. For the strength that He gives us is not ours to claim, Give glory to Yahweh, forever His name! Yahweh reigns!
