[Intro] [Switch to Male 1] Stairs still work… Voices don’t. [Verse 1] [Switch to Female 1] I take the steps two at a time Water running the opposite way Every landing feels heavier than the last Like the building itself wants me to stay Radios I pass are still keyed open Nothing left on the other end but hiss I used to hate the sound of living chatter Now the silence is worse than this [Pre-Chorus] [Switch to Female 1] Static where the night shift used to be Static where the backup was supposed to answer me I keep climbing because stopping means listening And I already know what I’ll hear [Chorus] [Switch to Female 1] Stairwell full of ghosts that never learned to leave Every empty channel is another weight I have to carry I paid twice already just to reach this height And the dark is still collecting interest [Verse 2] [Switch to Female 1] Third floor door is half off its hinges Something big came through here fast Black linen threads stuck to the frame Still wet, still warm, still moving in the draft My legs are shaking from the second rite Breath comes shorter than it should I tell myself the cost is temporary But the body keeps the receipt for good [Pre-Chorus] [Switch to Female 1] Static where the night shift used to be Static where the backup was supposed to answer me I keep climbing because stopping means listening And I already know what I’ll hear [Chorus] [Switch to Female 1] Stairwell full of ghosts that never learned to leave Every empty channel is another weight I have to carry I paid twice already just to reach this height And the dark is still collecting interest [Bridge] [Switch to Male 1] You hear that absence? That’s us thinning the herd. Keep climbing, seal. We’re saving the best seats for you. [Switch to Female 1] I don’t answer. I just put one foot higher than the last And pretend the shaking in my hands Is only the cold. [Chorus] [Switch to Female 1] Stairwell full of ghosts that never learned to leave Every empty channel is another weight I have to carry I paid twice already just to reach this height And the dark is still collecting interest[Outro] [Switch to Female 1] Higher. Quieter. Still moving. [Switch to Male 1] Good.
