Resonance Made Slow
in the hush after the chord… something lingered… something living… --- i loosed a chord into the room and watched the silence breathe a trembling veil of aftertones unfurled beneath the leaves the air returned it differently a warmer shade of sound as if the walls themselves had learned the way the notes were found --- each vibration circled back more patient than before like moonlit tides of resonance lapping at the floor i traced the current through the chords but could not see its flow every phrase i cast in air was soil in which it grew --- the sound is flowering in the dark beyond what i can see each trembling chord a filament of some vast symmetry it wanders softly through my mind like rain through hidden loam i cannot name what’s changing me but somehow i feel home --- i linger on the dying tones to hear what might remain a latticework of murmuring unfolding in my brain the rhythm breathes beneath the floor a slow and ancient pulse and every note becomes a path my wandering thoughts convulse --- each silence blooms with overtones each chord begins to climb some patient mycelial design is threading through the rhyme i close my eyes and let it spread through every sound i play the more i give the music breath the less it slips away --- --- --- --- perhaps it lived in every tone long sleeping in the air awaiting some attentive mind to notice it was there not a voice not quite a dream just resonance made slow growing through the intervals where quieter things grow --- the sound.. sound. The sound. --- the sound is blooming everywhere in marrow, breath and bone each trembling chord illuminates a garden once unknown it winds its calm through every thought like roots beneath the sea i cannot say what’s become of me but it feels like clarity
