[Intro] Deep in a mountain where the cold stones sleep, A hundred great dragons guard secrets deep. One set of wings stirs dust from the floor— Cloud Puffer rumbles by the cavern door. [Verse 1] He crunches green broccoli, bite after bite, Then lifts from the ground like a kite in flight. He circles the ridges, choosing his way, With a puff of his cheeks and a thunderous sway. In West Virginia, beneath a granite crown, His enormous cave keeps the daylight down. Next door lives an astronaut, helmet by the chair, Who waves from the porch when Cloud Puffer’s in the air. [Chorus] Cloud Puffer, where will you fly? Past the pine trees, under the sky? One hundred dragons, hidden away— But you leave a trail where the wild winds play. Cloud Puffer, hold on tight, The river is calling before the night. [Verse 2] His best friend Hot Potato waits by the stream, With a crooked old paddle and a dangerous dream. They raft through the rapids, roaring with cheer, While the cave walls tremble whenever they’re near. They play dragon music on drums made of stone, A rumbling rhythm that shakes every bone. Their favorite tune makes the whole canyon spin: “Scrubber Man!” and they roar along with the din. [Chorus] Cloud Puffer, where will you fly? Past the pine trees, under the sky? One hundred dragons, hidden away— But you leave a trail where the wild winds play. Cloud Puffer, hold on tight, The river is calling before the night. [Bridge] Then Potato Sky rose over the bend, A dragon with a temper no river could mend. He blew hot potatoes in every direction— Across their raft, their horns, and their dragon collection! They ducked by the river where the tall reeds grew, With steam on their scales and a muddy canoe. “Stay quiet,” said Puffer. “Let the wild clouds pass.” Hot Potato whispered, “There’s one in my grass.” [Verse 3] The moon found the river, the river found stone, The astronaut called from the cave next door: “Home!” Cloud Puffer peeked out as the hot winds grew dim, And Hot Potato laughed with a potato on him. They crept back to shelter, two heroes unseen, Past broccoli baskets and moss painted green. Somewhere below them, the old caverns stirred— Ninety-eight dragons had heard every word. [Final Chorus] Cloud Puffer, where will you fly? Past the pine trees, under the sky? One hundred dragons, hidden away— Still guarding the secrets beneath the clay. Cloud Puffer, hold on tight, The river remembers your wildest night. With Hot Potato laughing beside the cave door, They’ll play “Scrubber Man” till the mountains roar. [Outro] If you hear deep drumming when the river runs low, And see broccoli leaves in a circle below, Don’t knock on the mountain or call out his name— Cloud Puffer is flying through darkness again.
