[Verse 1] Clock in at eleven, badge on my belt Cold coffee in a paper cup, three taps on the rail Bay four door hanging like a mouth half open Yellow spill on the concrete, something's already broken One set of prints in the dust by the seam Coming in clean, then gone at the machine I said, "Who'd leave it like that?" The air didn't answer back [Pre-Chorus] I checked the chain I checked the lock Then I heard one hinge Give a tiny knock Footprints in No tracks away Like somebody came To stay [Chorus] Loading dock, loading dock Tell me what you saw Loading dock, loading dock Why's the door ajar? (ajjar) One set in, one set gone Mine go cold on the floor Loading dock, loading dock Who came in before? Loading dock, loading dock Who came in before? [Verse 2] I walked the lane with my flashlight low Forklift parked sideways, no driver to show Manifest on the clipboard, torn at the edge A smear on the rubber boots by the safety ledge Pallets stacked up like teeth in a row One box split open, nothing in the glow My radio hissed, then went dead flat I said, "You in there?" No reply to that [Pre-Chorus] I held my breath By the steel-frame wall Heard a slow drip In the break-room hall Footprints in No tracks away Like somebody came To stay [Chorus] Loading dock, loading dock Tell me what you saw Loading dock, loading dock Why's the door ajar? (ajjar) One set in, one set gone Mine go cold on the floor Loading dock, loading dock Who came in before? [Bridge] Then I found a glove by the loading light Half a torn label, black and white Not mine, not his, not on the sheet Just one more sign on the concrete I backed up slow, kept my eyes on the seam And the whole place held its breath with me I thought about running Thought about prayer Then the first boot print Moved near the stair [Final Chorus] Loading dock, loading dock Tell me what you saw Loading dock, loading dock Why's the door ajar? (ajjar) One set in, one set gone Mine go cold on the floor Loading dock, loading dock Who came in before? Loading dock, loading dock I don't stand there anymore (anymore)
