[Verse 1] You came with honest longing, Wanting all that God could give. You begged God for a new heart, Tried to change the life you lived. Every vow you made was earnest, Every prayer was spoken true. Still you found yourself returning To what you wanted to lose. [Narrator – Spoken] (softly) “Your promises and resolutions are like ropes of sand.” [Pre-Chorus] You braided all your best intentions, Certain they would see you through. But every cord that you had woven Could never make your heart brand new. [Chorus] God never asked for all your striving. He simply asked you to let go. Place your life into His hands… And find the strength you’ve never known. [Verse 2] Every morning you would start again, Certain this would be the day. Then you’d rebuild another promise, And watch it slowly slip away. All your victories were fleeting, All your failures felt the same. You kept believing one more try would work, But God wasn’t asking you to change. [Narrator – Spoken] “You cannot change your heart… but you can choose to serve Him. You can give Him your will.” [Chorus] God never asked for all your striving. He simply asked you to let go. Place your life into His hands… And find the strength you’ve never known. [Bridge] You thought surrender meant you’d lose The dreams you held so tight. Instead God broke the chains you’d forged Trying to get things right. [Pre-Chorus] You braided all your best intentions, Certain they would see you through. But every cord that you had woven Could never make your heart brand new. [Final Chorus] God never asked for all your striving. He simply asked you to let go. Place your life into His hands… And find the strength you’ve never known.
